Peterborough has everything you want from a big city, lots of shops, lots of parking, swimming pool, Catherdral bowling alley etc etc.
But one of the best things is the pubs, both central and in the surrounding areas.
Take for example the centre. You have: The College Arms. A Wetherspoons pub with a modern yet traditional feel. Serves lots of real ale with 3 different guests every week, lager and good food. This is one of the cheapest pubs in town, with prices starting from £1.37 a pint.
The Brewery Tap. Europes largest (as the name suggests pub & brewery). Sit and enjoy a nice pint (I reccomend the Bass) whilst a range of Beer is brewed in front of you. If this gets boring you can always watch the Chefs cook the excellent Thai food, again through plate glass.
Move on to HG's a theme pub featuring you guest it HG Wells. Lots of pictures and real pieces from his work Beer on tap is Eagle.
Stroll next door to the Old Still, with an Olde Worlde feel to it. IPA is the standard beer.
Next The Old Monk, again excellent real beer in modern but standard pub setting. Beer on Tap Wadworths 6X, Broadside (occasionally) and several other guests. Excellent food.
Then across town to the Solstice, an Irish pub with excellent Guiness, Wadworths 6X and Flowers. Also an amazing wall size projector TV for those sporting occasions and loud music in the evenings. Food available.
If you fancy something a bit more modern and trendy, what about Westside Bar or Chicago Rock Cafe.
All of these pubs are within a 5 minute walk of the City Centre and are all very good. There are also another good 10 pubs in the close vicinity and 3 good nightclubs. Also plenty of places to grab a burger or kebeb when you've finished for the night.
I thoroughly recommend Peterborough. Come and stay for the weekend, you won't regret it.

Ah Peterborough, I've been there today. The 'Old Still' in the Queensgate centre, was a pub I did the photographs for when it opened. The old Rat&Carrot has just been done up (the one by the Brewery Tap) and changed it's name (memory fails me) I was there for the re-opening, the 'dodgy' Mayor was doing the honours . Must take a look at the Wetherspoons pub - I like their pubs, despite doing a lot of work for the opposition, Greene King. BUT never forget, there is much more to Peterborough that the pubs. The Key Theatre, the Cresset down at Bretton, the Football Club, Great Shopping centre (well, not 'great', but pretty good) etc etc. Ahh the memories, Cheers Dave, I'll have a pint of Fosters if you're buying!
