Better than my hometown Science museum
Advantages: A great, must-see museum. Disadvantages: Expensive
...a whole day at the Franklin Institute on my own after my wife recommended it, having told me her fond memories of visiting it herself on school class trips.
It is a beautifully designed centre commited to the demonstration of science in a fairly fun and very informative way; there are activities and demonstrations for people of all ages. (however some of it is a little difficult to understand for young kids; but thats OK because ' the touch museum', ... ...roll music
The Franklin Institute is a must-go-see museum for anyone of any age who visits Philadelphia (sad for me to say it is miles better than the london science museum). It is a nice long walk to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, fairmount park and the Academy of Natural Sciences. But if you don't fancy the 15 minute or so walk then the Philadelphia public transportation system is very good.
On the down-side I found it to be pretty expensive ...

Is it a freak show? you go and decide!
Advantages: fascinating look at all that is wierd and can go wrong with the human body Disadvantages: not for the quesy or young children.
The Mutter museum is a collection of exhibits that is not really for the quesy;
It is situated on south 22nd street just on the corner of chestnut, so just a stones throw from 30th street amtrak station, the old arts district and market street shopping mall.
On one of my many visits to Philadelphia I was walking up Chestnut street with my wife, when she stopped and said, "ooh, Now YOU will love this place". And she was right; It probably has something ... ...decided that it is my favorite museum of all time. It's all the things that could happen or go wrong with the human body; mostly the stuff that your mother would stop you in your tracks and tell you not to stare. There is permanent collection and other temporary exhibits; one of these exhibits when I was there was all about infectious diseases. It was very imformative with graphic models and photography; ok so it may have put me off my lunch (a bit) ...

The historic side of the city of brotherly love.
Advantages: Steeped in American history. Disadvantages: Crowds crowds crowds
...hall is located in the Independence National Historical Park which is part of the Old Arts district and sometimes referred to as centre city, (The skyline of centre city itself closely resembles Canary Wharf in London's East End).
At the park which is set in some 45 acres you can see the Liberty Bell exhibit, and Independence Hall, where both the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were created, (Also one of the scenes in the recent ... ...depicts the events and the lives of the population during the years when Philadelphia was the capital city of the United States around 1790 to 1800 (I think).
A part of the park is the site where Benjamin Franklin lived where there now stands a museum dedicated to his life and works, as well as housing the cemetary where he is buried along with many other historical figures from the USA's past.
As well as there being no shortage of places of interest ...

The bell in the city of brotherly love.
Advantages: An important piece of American history. Disadvantages: longer in the queue than inside.
The entrance to the Liberty Bell Center is on market street, just opposite independance hall which is also the backdrop of the bell when you finally come to see it in its glass chamber. It is open throughout the year until around 5pm, though that time may vary depending on the time of year.
The new Liberty Bell Center itself is not the original site of the bell and is a fairly modern structure of concrete and glass surrounded by a well maintained ... ...presentation and exhibits about the Liberty Bell, telling its historic origins and describing how the american people feel it is an international icon of freedom, the exhibit is run by National Park Wardens who are friendly and always at hand to answer any questions
At the end of the exhibit you finally come to the Bell itself which is impressive to look at, with the added reward of the famous crack. Taking in the whole experience, reading all the ...
