It is located in Manchester city centre - slap bang next to the main bus stop area and within a few minutes walk of Piccadilly train station. The gardens are right across from Market street which is one of the main shopping streets in the city centre ... ...not having it actually resembling an actual garden!

Where are Piccadilly gardens? It is located in Manchester city centre - slap bang next to the main bus stop area and within a few minutes walk of Piccadilly train station. The gardens are right across from Market street which is one of the main shopping streets in the city centre which leads to the Arndale and also to the famous King Street.
What kind of garden is it? Of course what may be confusing to visitors to the city is that they are expecting an actual garden within a city where you see flowers, trees and the usual like of a garden! What I should explain is that it used to be slightly more garden like in the older days as it had a section that dipped where there was then a large lawn and a walkway around this with benches set up. Now though after the makeover, the ‘garden’ is actually a flat piece of open land where two smaller section of lawn have been put in with the rest all concrete. There is a section in the middle where they have installed fountains. There are various places to sit but, concrete style seats rather than the classic wooden bench. There are a variety of shops and restaurants all around the gardens with the biggest right across the road being Primark and a Prêt and Nero‘s both circling it too. The tram also runs right along side it with various stops also right on the edge of the gardens.
My personal opinion: I liked the old style of gardens as it felt more like an actual garden where people could go to sit and watch the world go by. In certain months a small funfair used to set up in the gardens and I remember as a child going on the carousel there! In my opinion what would have been better for the council to do would have been to just make over the original gardens by maybe replanting trees, giving the lawn a good fixing and re paving followed by some nice new benches. Instead they completely gutted it and flattened all the land out. It’s not that I don’t like the new style of ‘garden’ being all modern it is fairly nicely done but, most often the fountain for example is never on which when it is makes the area look quite funky in itself. In fact, it’s been a long while since I have seen them on and that was during a rather hot day when children were running through it, parents relaxed on the grass and the ice cream van was set up for the day! I think this is when the new style of garden really shows how nice it can be as when it is full of people just watching the world go by and enjoying the sunshine whilst the sound of the water from the fountains gives off a peaceful vibe it can be a good place in the middle of a busy city to just do nothing! However I do feel they have lost some of that original charm by not having it actually resembling an actual garden! If you fancy visiting Piccadilly gardens just don’t expect too much and don’t be surprised you think ‘is this it?’ After all it is just a flat piece of land with a bit of concrete and grass on it!

Piccadilly gardens used to be really messy, but it's loads better now . The council spent loads doing it up and now it's so much better. If you did visit it when it was a mess, I urge you to visit it again, as it is so different.
Overview
Basically, for those who haven't visited Manchester recently, Picadilly gradens is a stretch of grass (around 200m square) in the centre of Manchester. It has fountains, a small bridge over a tiny stream from ... ...I hear it will be, I will update this review immediately, as it will take up a lot of space and change Piccadilly gardens a lot.
There's not much more to say, but if you do want to know anything, as always, just put a note in my guestbook. ...

Advantages: The trees are very beautiful Disadvantages: Lots of mess
Picadilly gardens are a right state at the moment. The benches are all chipped and broken and the grass is covered in weeds. There are no flowers anymore and the grass isn't cut. The fountain doesn't even work!
I think it is about time Manchester City Council did something about the state of this park. It is suppossingly a haven in the centre of a busy shopping area, but it really isn't. The paths are full of chewing gum and you can't sit down anywhere ...

I have been a regular to this hotel over the past two years and I have never been disappointed. The hotel is conviently located across from the main train station and only a 2 minute walk to the centre of the city - PiccadillyGardens.
The staff have always been helpful through my stays. The decor is contemporary and the rooms are finished to a high standard. Every room comes equiped with an Apple desktop computer with free internet acess - a nice touch. Fixture and fitting are all of a high spec and clean throughout. My only grip perhaps is that all the rooms are quite small.
The hotel bar is again contemporary in style, but is comfortable and has a good number of guests in the evenings. Breakfast was of a high standard with excellent service and a great selection of hot and cold foods.
All in all, a great place to stay! ...

can see the main entrance to The Savoy across the street which will generally charge around double, so do shop around, but I think prices generally are reasonable. For a twin room, we paid £109 for one night in February 2005 which included all taxes and the breaskfast.
How To Get There
The Strand Palace is about a 6 minute walk from the nearest London Underground station at Covent Garden which is served by the Piccadilly Line. The walk is extremely pleasant as you can take in the sights and sounds of Covent Garden on your way. Taxi is the most direct option, but also generally the most expensive. You can get a taxi from all major mainline stations and be at the hotel in no time at all. If you are driving in London, don't forget the congestion charge, and plan ahead if you're parking overnight as this facility is not available ...
Advantages: Good value for money, excellent staff Disadvantages: There is little to do in the immediate vicinity, no car park
I spent 4 nights at the Travelodge Manchester Ancoats in July 2008, staying in a Family Room.
Location
This particular Travelodge is reasonably well located on the main A665 road, however it does not have a car park. It is about a 10 to 15 minute walk to both Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria railway stations and it will take you no longer than 10 minutes to walk to the Arndale Centre or PiccadillyGardens, where you can find buses and trams heading all over the Greater Manchester area.
The area around the hotel isn't particularly salubrious however and there's a distinct lack of bars and restaurants nearby - you are better heading towards the Arndale if you are feeling hungry, although I did find a fairly decent sit down fish and chip shop about 5 minutes walk away.
