I went to Pinewood Village just over a year ago with my family as the main part of our trip to Kenya. We were there all-inclusive, which I would advise anyone else going to have as it meant all drinks, ice-creams, meals etc. were included and so you could have as many as you liked.
The accommmodation itself is mainly in villas, split into three sections but there were also apartments. In each villa, a chef cooks almost all of your evening meals and you decide what you want earlier in the day. The rooms themselves are comfortable and spacious with air-conditioning and mosquito nets. They were regularly cleaned. The only problems we had with the rooms was the fact that at any opportunity the local colobus monkeys would try to invade. At one point they did and unscrewed all the shampoos, toothpastes and mosquito repellants, obviously looking for food. There are also always lizards around but these aren't really a problem.
The service was very good in the resort, people were always friendly. We had a couple of problems at reception, probably due to misunderstandings between the staff themselves.
The food at lunch from the beachside bars was excellent as was the food cooked by the chef in the villa. The range of seafood was particularly impresive. At breakfast however, although the chefs preparing food such as pancakes and omelettes were very impressive, the demand for their cooking meant large queues for this. The rest of the food was ok but there were a lot of flies and wasps around the fruit juices and doughnuts, which was unappetising.
The facilities were quite good. The watersports centre was well-equipped but slightly expensive. Table-tennis was available but the dartboard lacked any darts to go with it. Beach volleyball was popular every day in the late afternoon. There were no televisions in the villas but there was one with sky news, cnn etc. in the lobby but there was quite a large demand to use it. The pool was very pleasant, complete with poolside bar. There was also a tennis court, which was useable bu the net neede repairing.
One main problem not so much with the resort as with the area is that you were strongly discouraged from leaving the resort due to safety fears. This leaves you feeling a bit isolated and there is only so much you can do on a beach without getting a bit restless.
Overall, I enjoyed my time there but could have done with a bit more to do during the day. Some people may not appreciate how quiet it is there but I didn't mind that.
