Advantages: Clean, Cheap, Cheerful Disadvantages: A big, busy resort
In August of this year my hubby and our son (14) and daughter (9) stayed in Salou for 2 weeks. We stayed in the Albatros Apartments, which were situated on a bit of a hill about 10 minutes walk from the main strip. We liked the situation of these apartments as Salou is quite a hussley bussely place and quite noisy at night time, but where we were was fairly quiet.
The flight from Glasgow only took 2 1/2 hours and the coach journey from Reus Airport to the Albatros Apartments only took 1/2 hour, so travelling time was great. Check in was also very quick, there were quite a few people who arrived at the same time as us, but there were 4 or 5 receptionists doing check in.
When we booked we probably left it a little late and could only get a studio apartment for the 4 of us so we were a bit concerned about the size. When we ...
Advantages: excellent family resort Disadvantages: a lot of building work still going on
Last year I took my family on holiday to Salou, I had never been to mainland spain before so did not know what to expect. I was delighted to find that the Dorado palace aparthotel lived up to its description in the brochure.
This aparthotel is a relatively new complex. We stayed in the apartments which are one bedroom and have satellite television. They are cleaned daily and are decorated to a very high standard, although we had booked self catering the restaurant was such good value for money that we often had breakfast and our evening meal there it usually cost about £10-£15 per person.
There was entertainment every evening which catered for all age groups. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and there are security guards evident in the evening to prevent lager louts etc. from entering the apartments ...
Advantages: Lovely apartments away from the main strip Disadvantages: No reception, only one key per apartment
We stayed here for a week in September 2005. The apartments are described by tour operators (our was Cosmos) as sleeping 6 but there were only 4 in our party and we paid £217 each for the package. They are advertised as 4* and did meet all expectations.
The apartments are part of a walled and gated complex of 3 blocks which centre around the pool, with well maincured lawns. The outside of the complex is also well kept and spotlessly clean. It's in a quiet road in a quiet district with other similar complexes and hotels. There's very little noise at night, except for entertainment in the hotels (which is over by midnight) and the occasional sounds of excited new arrivals exploring. Each block has 3 floors and a lift.
The pool isn't heated and there are lots of rules posted up regarding what you can and cannot do in and around it ...
