Pizza Dom Calais, Calais

Coming home from France we had slogged our way from the Alps to Calais to catch a late night ferry. We had to drive all the way on space saver tyres very slowly as we had a problem with the wheel on the car and being a Sunday it was difficult to find somewhere to sell us a new wheel. We had decided that we would not stop on route to eat and expecting to arrive in Calais an hour or two before we caught the ferry decided we would get something to eat in Calais. Rather than eat on the ferry.

Arriving in the dark, tired and hungry we found it difficult to find somewhere we thought we could afford to eat. Calais is not an especially nice romantic French town and we obviously did not go through the café, restaurant area. However we came across a take out Pizza restaurant called Pizza Dom’s on 143 Boulevard Lafayette. Map at http://uk.nomao.com/1700953.html

This is a take out Pizza shop and although I had originally thought we would eat a French meal in a café this was the best solution as we could park in the street while we ordered and waited for our pizza.

We had noticed Pizza Dom’s fairly easily as it had fairly large windows at the front of the shop which was lit. Also the name Pizza Dom was large and lit up. I got out of the car leaving hubby in it in. I investigated and found it suitable. I picked up a menu from the counter and took it back to hubby to choose his meal.
There were many pizza to choose from meat pizza sea food pizza and vegetarian pizzas also available were pasta dishes spaghetti Bolognese, spaghetti Saumon , forestaire and a couple of others Salads were also available. There was a selection of deserts including chocolat tart, coca cola fanta sprite, mineral water and similar bottles of drink available also a rose wine.
The prices of the pizzas varied from between6.90 and 7.80 euros for a 1 person junior pizza 24cm to a 2 person senior pizza 30cm for between 11.10 and 12.60 euros for a family 4 person, 40cm a spaghetti Bolognese cost 6,70 euros the other spaghettis slightly more pizza it costs between 20. 40 and 22 .50 euros. A simple salad cost 3 euros the chocolate tarte 2.60 euros.

We choose a Quarto for 2 persons this was a pizza with tomato, ham, onions and origan this cost 11euros.70 which I estimate to being around 11 pounds.

While I ordered our pizza I looked at the shop it seemed quite clean and respectable a small area in front of the counter where I ordered had a few chairs to sit on while waiting, the menu’s were on the wall. I found ordering our pizza easy. There was a 10 minute wait till it was ready I went back to car to inform hubby. It is possible to phone them up order your pizza and pick it up later phone number 0321970909 10 minute later I went to get and pay for our pizza. I paid in euros trying to use all the small coins I could. I could have paid by credit card.

Now it was dark and time pushing on still a bit early but not everso we drove to near the ferry where we sat and sort of looked at the sea while we ate. We were quite hungry as the drive had been long and tedious.

The pizza tasted quite good not the best I have eaten but a long way from the worst. The service good and polite, I did order in French but it was easy because of the menu to hand to point at :- ).

Would I recommend? Yes I think so
