Sorry about the title – it sounds like one that my brother would come out with in one of his ‘earlier’ opinions. But I’m going to tell you today about my trip to this wonderful land of incredibly scrumptious Italian food…
I went to the Pizza Express in Weybridge on Saturday and was rather impressed with the service generally, so I thought, since I have not written for a while, that I would tell you about these restaurants. Lovely!
LOCATION
The company have branches dotted up and down the country – they are very easy to find – you will come across a restaurant in the high street of most towns and in the main streets of large cities. They’re everywhere.

ARRIVING
As you approach your Pizza Express, try not to do so by car, because of the prime location of the stores, car parking is not really that easy around them so if you live nearby it might be a good idea to take a walk.
You go through the heavy door and you stand, most likely in a glass encasement to stop a draft from getting in to the restaurant and therefore cooling down everybody else’s meals. But just sit tight for a few moments!
FIRST SERVICE
After a few uneasy moments, with all gazing at you, a waiter or waitress will arrive and whisk you away to an empty table, after you decide whether you prefer the smoking or non section. If you don’t like the table, ask to move.
As you comfort your posteriors on your seats, a menu is handed to you and you quickly scan through the best foods. You discuss quickly what you are going to have, confirm you hate anchovies, and then your order is taken.
The menus are removed, ie taken away. You may have a brief wait now, so instead of sitting around chatting, you could pick up a magazine or newspaper, which you will find scattered around on a table somewhere.
DRINKS
The drinks will arrive after about three minutes and they will be served. Just about every beverage imaginable is available at Pizza Express, and they are usually cold and well kept, but if your beer is warm, ask for another.
When dining out, you should remember that it is YOU that is paying for the meal, so if you have a problem, make sure they know about it. If you have a complaint, voice it. Fortunately for me, I was satisfied!
STARTERS
About ten minutes will pass when from the open plan kitchen, where you can see the preparation, will emerge a waiter or waitress cradling your selected starter. I’m going to talk a little about the garlic bread: my favourite.
The garlic bread they serve at Pizza Express in the UK is something rather similar to heated pitta bread, yet it is thicker. The dough is cooked then generously smothered with garlic butter and garnished with some parsley.
It is then served to you and you have an expression of delight on your face as you take the first whiff of that wonderful flavour which is about to swirl around your mouth. One bite. You nearly collapse – it tastes wonderful!
MAIN COURSE
Over the years, PE has expanded to provide more than pizza. They now offer the full Italian – pizza, pasta, dough balls… as well as those lovely garnishes on the side including five different types of salad that they have available!
But I always choose the ‘Quattro Fromagi’ – the four cheeses pizza. The cheese melts and therefore the four different products fuse together to create this wonderful infusion of cheesiness and a beautiful pizza.
All of Pizza Express’ pizzas are pretty nice and the only problem I have is with eggs. Some of the pizzas have eggs on them and these, unfortunately, have dry yolks, which later on do not contribute greatly to the texture.
PUDDINGS
For afterwards, there is a great selection of things to eat. But when I eat a Pizza Express, I have two personal favourites, which never fail me and always taste wonderful. These perfections of the world I will tell you about.
My favourite is the chocolate fudge cake. Its sticky layers blend together with the beautiful sugar coating to create a chocolate hater’s hell. This is one of the most enjoyable dishes that I have ever tasted.
There is also one of my other personal favourites, and that is the PE vanilla ice cream. All though it seems such a simple choice, they really do capture that vanilla flavour and the wafer really helps the flavour along.
HYGIENE
The health and hygiene conditions at Pizza Express, unlike at Burger King, are absolutely outstanding. You can see the kitchens, just to make sure that you are reassured, in all of their stores.
Never, like Daniel has in school dinners, have I found bugs and beasts in salads or foods, and I am always pleased with the food as well as the cleanliness status of the restaurant, which is always very good news.
ATMOSPHERE
The places are carefully decorated and well lit to create a pleasant and friendly environment. Again, if music is too loud then feel free to ask to have it turned down, as well as any air conditioning.
Tables are mostly marble so you can rest assured that there will not be any much stuck in between cracks which is lovely to hear. The people are friendly and I can almost 100% guarantee that you will enjoy your meal.
SUMMARY
A great place to go for both eat in and take away meals if you want them top-quality and pretty cheap. The places are clean and nice to go to, the service is lovely and I can see absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t…
