It's only been within the last couple of years really that pizza hut has been springing up all over Northern Ireland. Before that, whenever I went to pizza hut, it was usually Scotland. There were a couple in Northern Ireland, but they were slightly out of the way.
What I like about pizza hut is that you get to choose your pizzas, and they also have a nice range of starters and side dishes, as well as salads. I usually go with my partner & a few mates, and we usually share. It is quite expensive, but worth it usually.
Pizza hut appeals to almost everyone. It is a family orientated restaurant, but you can also go for a meal with your mates and not feel out of place.
There are set kids meals, and kids also get a free goodie bag, usually with a colouring in book/puzzle book, crayons, and another toy, although my local pizza hut knows us, & we have gotten a few goodie bags ourselves. Recently they have had Garfield ones, with a free pair of sunglasses.
Pizza hut can be very hit and miss though. There are a few excellent ones in Northern Ireland, especially the one in Yorkgate in Belfast, but a few others, most notably the recently opened one in Coleraine is slightly hit and miss, including the time my vegetarian bf was given a pizza with chicken on it. My friend and I also waited over half an hour for dessert one day, the guy serving our table had gone on a break, and no one took over his duties!
Pizza hut mainly sells pizzas, the Italian with a thin base, and deep pan with a thicken base. There's also the edge, with toppings to the edge of the pizza and the stuffed crust which is only available in large. There is a range of toppings, and there are also 2 base sauces available, the traditional tomato and barbecue.
There are also various side dishes including garlic bread and potato wedges, both of which taste soggy to me, and also some other nicer starters such as loaded potato skins, one of the few place that does them without bacon, ideal for the boyf, and also garlic doughballs and chicken wings.
Salads are available as either a starter of a main course, and there is a wide range of salad available, including some of the nicest dressings and potato salads I've ever tried, which puts the healthy aspect of a salad right out the window! Salads are self service, although the lack of a sneeze guard at some restaurants puts me off the salads slightly.
There are also other main courses such as lasagne and other pasta dishes, but I have never tried these, so can't comment.
The desserts are another talking point, which include favourites like chocolate fudge cake, cheesecake and ice cream. They also have introduced the ice cream factory, a Mr Whippy style ice cream you help yourself to, along with dolly mixtures, smarties & sauces etc. This can be quite hit & miss though, as the one I tried in Edinburgh was like slightly frozen milk.
They serve both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, and the Pepsi, fanta etc all have free refills, very handy! They cost £1.60, and most alcoholic drinks cost around £3 but unfortunately, the free refills don’t expend to alcohol!
There is also an al you can eat buffet during the week for £5.49, but I have yet to be down during the week to try it :o(
As I said above, pizza hut can be quite hit and miss, but when it's good, it's very good, although it can work out quite expensive, thankfully they have special offers though, and I often have vouchers for 25% off through my bank account..
