Advantages: Great food, fantastic set meals, excellent service Disadvantages: I don't live near it!
...As soon as we knew that we were going to spend a few days in Belfast, we started using the internet to seek out some likely places to dine. My first thought was "Cayenne", owned by celebrity chef Paul Rankin and his wife, Jeanne. However, I thought that the cost woud be prohibitive and that he place would be booked solid months in advance. Having dined there, I can now confirm that I was wrong on both counts.
On arriving in Belfast we decided to go for a stroll and explore the area around our hotel and we stumbled, by chance, on Cayenne. I was quite surprised by the exterior. It is situated at the end of a block of buildings which include a large, stylishly timber-clad Italian restaurant, a betting shop and a cheap Chinese cafe. The area is basically a big road junction but some of the trendier parts of the city lead off from...

..., it was selected as a safe place for ships to dock and then transport wool and grain overseas. Victor Harbor is steeped in indigenous tradition. The Bluff, Granite Island and Kent Reserve all hold great cultural significance to the local Njarrindjeri people (no I can't pronounce that either)
Dolphins are a year round attraction and the Great Southern Right Whales can be seen from May through to October. We were lucky enough to see a whale or two during our time there in 2001, fairly close to the shore, but not close enough for a decent photograph. They do say that these Whales regularly come very much closer to the shoreline, but we weren't lucky enough to see that. Cute little penguins (Fairy penguins to be exact) reside on Granite Island, which is linked to the mainland at Victor Harbor by a Causeway. More about that later.
Unless you have a car...

Advantages: Nowhere else on earth has more multiculturalism packed into one place Disadvantages: These days it's little more than a tourist attraction.
..., but still cheaper than anywhere else in Camden. It is especially good for Dr Martens and offensive T shirts. It's set out like a proper market, with stalls and pickpockets and English as a 3rd or 4th language. I would say it's roughly the size of a supermarket car park, possibly smaller.
So, we leave the market, turn right again, lose a couple of ribs bumping into goths who saw something shiny they can spend their parents money on, and you start to pass mini restaurants which alwas smell pretty good actually. Then, it's a shoe shop, another shoe shop, a goth leather shop, then the bridge, which is apprently the best place to buy drugs. Assuming you don't want drugs, and you successfully didn't make eye contact with any of the dealers, you cross the bridge. But feel free to stop and look out over the lock. By the banks of the lock you will see...
