On my last visit to Paris I stayed near the Place de la Concorde and ended up waling around the place almost every day on my way to other places. Sadly, all the other places were more worthy of a visit.

History tells us this was a main centre of executions during the French Revolution. The guillotine dramatically dropped in this very square hundreds of times. The crowd cheered as class fought class and the underdog won. I challenge anybody to capture that sense of history hear now. Close your eyes (briefly please ... any longer would be dangerous!). Try hard to hear the crowd and see the guillotine slicing through the air and the neck. You'll struggle, as this square is now a mindless melee of traffic fighting for a drive up the Champs Elysees.
It is important to see if only to learn how not to preserve a vital part of a city's heritage, even a country's heritage. Unfortunately now though the traffic fumes and noise destroy any effort to capture the moments that originally made this place famous.
Overall, although on my must see list, this is one of the least inspiring places to visit in an otherwise magical city.
this is probaly he centre of paris. it is a large round about with a phallic monument in the middle. by night it is beautiful as it is lit up and you can see the arabic / egyptian writing engraved on it iin gold. it is truly a fine sight. but what is better is what surrounds the monument. there are the government buildings, in one direction there is a direct path to the louvre but most stunning of all in the other direction there is a view up the ...

Advantages: warm in summer, romantic, architecture, street cafes Disadvantages: street entertainers wanting money for nothing, Hotel Favart
My boyfriend and I travelled by Eurostar to Paris last summer and I can truly say it was the most wonderful holiday we have ever experienced. Disneyland Paris was the first stop and it is far more attractive than its American counterparts. We had to take the metro to Paris and carrying our luggage up four flights of escalators was a struggle, but it was worth it.
Our first hotel was a great disappointment - Hotel Favart. It was a total dump and we were only allowed to leave and cancel our reservation after I flooded the lobby with tears.
A very fast taxi journey took us to Hotel California on Rue de Berri, just of the Champs Elyesse. I will never forget turning the corner at the PlaceDelaConcorde and seeing the Arc de Triomphe for the first time. Forget the Eiffel - Paris is about architecture and the Arc is incredible.

● The Avenue des Champs Elysées is the most famous street in Paris. This broad road starts at the Arc de Triomphe and continues straight to the PlacedelaConcorde. The street is lined with fashionable shops and restaurants and is a popular place for tourists. This section introduces some of the places along or close to this road. ●
