In short, Planet Hollywood is for New Yorkers to have a vacation to in my opinion and is not a high tourist location.
I would recommend it if you were staying in New York for a long time and were running out of places to eat at.

I recently visited New York and our first place of call for eats was Planet Hollywood Time Square. Now entering the place was great, you had all the memorabilia, which was really interesting. You walked up the stairs and into the bar area and up to the further floor. It was all very facinating and even the large black man in the toilet offering hand towels was mildly interesting yet intimidating.
Once sat down I felt as though I was in a McDonalds. I had looked at the interesting Terminator Bike and now found myself sat at a chequered table with a music channel playing in the background, surrounded by Baseball pictures and records.
At this point I felt as though my time in New York could have been better spent than in a glammed up Maccy D's. But I thought, I'm on holiday lets have fun!
The waiter came over and I ordered a cheeseburger and chips - the culinary delight. The waiter then sped off and returned with a pitcher of coke to keep us going. Now content with socialising and finishing my slightly watery coke I waited. Moments later our food arrived. I found myself blown away. Not only was the size of the burger huge but it tasted fantastic. which was unusual for me.
Happily munching away I found myself feeling more and more detatched from New York.
Much to my dismay the waiter kept returning to make us drink as much fizzy drinks as we could. Upon finishing my mammoth of a meal I felt satisfied. But before I could even think about relaxing, the waiter snapped my plate away and handed me the menu. Could he not see I was trying to enjoy what I had eaten.
Nethertheless I ordered a cakey delight, which I enjoyed prodding with my fork.
Leaving the restaurant I felt stuffed but somewhat disappointed. On my first day in NY, I had eaten in a place that had none of the New York feel that I expected. (Note everywhere else I ate was much more New Yorkie, as in not a big chain that cuts you off from the city).
In short, Planet Hollywood is for New Yorkers to have a vacation to in my opinion and is not a high tourist location.
I would recommend it if you were staying in New York for a long time and were running out of places to eat at.

I went to planet hollywood twice while in new york once for drinks on the first night and then another night for dinner. We didn't have any wait to be seated and our waiter was very polite and helpful. We did wait a while for him to fetch our beers but he seemed to have to serve half of the resturant alone. Decided on the captain crunch chicken for the appetiser and it was really nice but for the price you only get 3 strips for about $8. For the ... ...expensive for what we had.
Planet Hollywood is the same which ever one you go to be it london, paris ,orlando the displays might be a little differant but the general atmosphere is the same. If i went to New York again I might call in for a beer but i wouldn't eat there again.
Planet Hollywood is in a prime location next to a huge ToysRus on Times Square. It is the resturant chain that is owned by Sylvestor Stallon arnold Swartznegger and Bruce ...

Advantages: Good food, good service, great experience. Disadvantages: Can queue for a while
...the first time into a Planet Hollywood Restuarant. We had to wait a while to get in and then was escorted to the bar to wait further holding a plastic light thingy that vibrated when your table was ready. Then we entered and, Wow, what a place. Seated, surrounded by so much movie memorobelia that when your meal arrived, you found it hard to take your eyes of it and took pot luck at what you was putting in your mouth.

Planet Hollywood on times square is a great place in midtown to go for a lunchtime treat between shopping and sightseeing.
They serve large portions, and have a huge variety of meals to choose from, although few vegetarian options.
I think it's a great place to take children of all ages to see the film props and memerabillia, the Terminator motorcycle is one not to miss as you go through the entrance.

Advantages: nice food and not over priced, service was ok Disadvantages: always very busy you could be forced to stand in line for a long time
i enjoyed it as there is allot of movie props etc to look at and i can imagine it to be good fun for a group party. personally i was just there with my girlfriend but enjoyed it. the place was very busy and we had to wait in a line for almost 35 mins.
the food was nice and filling and of good value for time square. i recommend it for young people or families to go and eat before or after a show. as we did, for people goin to time square for a show ...

Do not be fooled into the tourist traps - unless you really do want to experience the likes of Hard Rock Cafe NewYork, Harley Davidson Cafe, PlanetHollywood or TGI Friday's. If you are keen on spending money on attractions and not so set on food, find the places average salaried New Yorkers would eat at.
There are many places to go, but one good example is Third Avenue in NewYork between about 30th street and 26th street. On this stretch you will find moderately priced and good Oriental cuisine. There is Thai and Vietamese primarily. There is also a branch of 'Sotto Cinque', which offers moderately priced Italian food. You will be able to have a meal there for under 15$ (unless you are big on the booze).

you will get on Broadway.
Just go this way southern towards Times Square.
When you are in NewYork City you have to see that.
Huge advertising boards and crowd - you get easy confused with all the lights, especially at night and on the weekends.
On the way there theatre next to theatre and Toys'R' us (1514 Broadway between 44th and 45th St.) Even when you are an adult you will have fun. Everybody is a little bit kid in there.
There is a big wheel to ride mostly for kids.
Then you can find all kind of snuggle stuffed animals and a huge Barbiehouse to go in. If you like games for computer just go to the lower level.
Also on Broadway a lot of small stores.
Maybe when you have good luck you can see "celebritys" in the PlanetHollywood Restaurant or even just on the street in NewYork City.
