Advantages: the music, the crowd... Disadvantages: Oldham St is scary at night(and in the day for that matter!!)

Advantages: A famous Hill station of the Raj. Cool and quiet, a large chunk of History. Wonderful Lake. Disadvantages: None

Ooty (Ootacamund) in Tamil Nadu, is situated in the Nilgiri Hills, also known as the Blue Mountains, in Southern India. It is one of the most beautiful places on this planet. Next to this is possibly the Cameron Highlands, near K.L. or Kuala Lumpur in Malaya, or maybe, Nanai Tal in Northern India in the mountains south of the Himmalayas, but that is another story.
Snooty Ooty of the title came about early in the life of the Raj because, whilst most of the, "Less well-off people", had to make do with life on the plains of India, only the, "Well-off", could afford to go to the Hill Stations as they became known. In the British Army, only the officers and their ladies were allowed this privilege together with important and financially secure members of the privileged classes. All this changed later...

...their dancing style. They are able to shake their shoulders and hips independently while simultaneously moving their feet (Beyoncé would struggle). I do my best, but my hips seem to have been built to a different design specification. Dusk begins to fall, and I am suddenly struck by the otherness of the experience; I am in a field in an African village, dancing with local people. I feel a sense of being a long way from my home, but at the same time a sense of being very connected to the planet, and totally at home.
Skimmers: It's hot. It's a long way away.

Dr Who - The Web Planet (1965)
When thinking of 1960s Doctor Who many consider it a golden era for the show. However, as my rating suggests, the series was just as fallible then as it is in it's later and current incarnations.
