There were four of us that went on an all inclusive holiday in August 2004 in the Iberostar in Playa Dorada.
On arrival to the hotel we were all mightily impressed with the surroundings. The bedrooms were well equipped with a mini bar (thats refilled every other day), air conditioning and your usual refinements.
The Reps try (as per usual) to sell you excursions to various parts around the island. We booked one and found that another 25% is added to these if you do book through your rep. One tip is too buy from a beach seller or there are copious amounts of people selling these cheaper in the shopping complex.
We would definately suggest in doing:- 1) Safari with the waterfalls 2) Swim with Dolphins (but arrange this yourselves much cheaper) 3) White Water Rafting 4) Cataraman ride (not the rep one)
The food is superb as you would expect with a five star hotel, but this can after 8 days get a bit boring and the same.
The beach's are superb - but be wary if you do take a walk past the private beach as you will be confronted by beach sellers selling cheap items who do not give up that easy!
Nightlife in the hotel was average with nightly shows put on for everyone, with something special for the kids.
Facilities at the hotel were superb with a great pool, tennis courts, pool hall and shops.
Another tip is that they tell you to change your money into US dollars. DONT! Watch the exchange rates as we found it better to change UK money or use your credit card.
Overall we had a great two weeks and would go back again.
One word of caution though. When you leave the Domninican Republic pack your video and camera in your hand luggage. We didn't and packed ours in our suitcase. This has a sturdy lock on and was broken into. We lost everything! This is a big scam over there when your bags go through the scanner they can see what is in there! We even have heard of expensive trainers being stolen!!

Advantages: Beautiful place - Ideal for couples and families - very friendly place Disadvantages: Very quiet nightlife - not much to do in the evenings and evening entertainment not up to much
Advantages: Fantastic Surroundings, Lovely Hotel, Great Excursions to Take, Friendly Staff, VIP Treatment Disadvantages: You won't want to come home and going to Spain will seem poor in comparison
