I went to the Dominican Republic in 2002. Had an excellent time. We were greeted with dancers when we arrived at the resort who handed us cocktails we were then shown to our rooms. All staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Very hot place but air conditioning in the rooms is excellent - first place I have ever had to go outside to get warm!!! Food is great - wide range of choice and there is always somewhere open to eat 24hours a day. Plenty of entertainment during the daytime around the pool and beach bbq with water activities going on throughout the day- carribeanmusic playing in the background and lots of friendly people around. There is a mini cart that takes you to and from the beach every 5 minutes. Not much to fault about this holiday - except for in the evenings the entertainment was a bit poor and there wasn't really anywhere to go. Also if you go out of the resort on sightseeing trips you need to watch the locals they can be very intimidating. You can get a 2 week all inclusive deal to this destination for between £650 and £800 (I paid £600 for 2 weeks ai when I went in 2002 but there are always deals and offers on)
