The Plug is located above a block of offices right in the heart of the city centre and since opening its doors a few years ago it has established itself as one of the most popular venues in the city. It is a large club split into three different rooms; cleverly called Live, Earth and Neutral.

Live is the room where most of the live bands play and there is a stage and a room large enough to accommodate around 500 people standing. The other two rooms are usually used to play different styles of music but the design of the place means that it is possible to remove the false walls and create one large room with a capacity of around 1200. I seen a few live acts here including Jarvis Cocker and Glasvegas and on both of these occasions it was just one large room rather than the three smaller ones.

There are different theme nights held during the week including indie nights but at the weekend the music is predominantly house and dance. The bands that play on a Friday or Saturday night are finished by around 10pm and by 11pm the venue has been turned into a nightclub with a licence to serve alcohol under 6am.

The location of the Plug makes it very easy to find. There is a taxi rank right outside and it is within walking distance of both the main bus interchange station and the railway station. A multi storey car par park joins onto the Plug but this closes at 10pm so if you are coming to watch a band check what time it finishes and make sure that you keep a check on the time if you park there.

Overall I think this is a great venue for the city and its popularity is reflected by the length of the queue outside the doors most nights of the week.

The 3 rooms sounds a clever concept
