--About Plus Hostels—

Plus hostels are a chain of hostels in various cities including Berlin, Rome and Florence amongst others. They advertise as a luxury chain of hostels and offer different varieties of room including dormitories and privates.

--Personal experience—

I went backpacking round Tuscany with a friend in July of last year and we went on a budget so went for hostel accommodation in each city. We opted for Plus Florence as it was fairly central and it offered special girls luxury packages which meant you got free big fluffy towels and hairdryers in the rooms. We went for a girls only 8 person room as we were two girls travelling alone and you get slightly extra security that way.

The bathroom facilities were en suite to the rooms and we were in a room of 8 people. There were two bathrooms leading off our dormitory. The bathrooms were really nice and had hairdryers in them and basic showers and toilets. A really nice thing about this hostel was that it offered free towels which saved carrying our own.

The hostel had a roof balcony which was absolutely stunning and offered a gorgeous Duomo view. We sat up there for some rather strong cocktails in the evening. They had a 7 euro cocktail offer on which we decided to take advantage of with disastrous consequences! There was a large choice of seating. There was also a dancefloor in the basement which got quite busy later on.
The rooms were clean and the beds were comfy, but they got incredibly stuffy at night.

I would recommend this hostel for young people as in the evening it was quite loud and for this reason it may not be family friendly.

The only negatives I can think of were that breakfast is not inclusive in the price of the room which is a shame and that the rooms got incredibly hot at night with 8 people in them. There was a fair amount of drunken noise including from some American girls sharing our room but that’s what you get for going in peak season, and we did our fair share of getting in late but weren’t quite so inconsiderate (never mind!)

You could walk anywhere in Florence from the doorstep, and we enjoyed walking from the door, though it was a considerable distance in the 40 degree heat we enjoyed while we were there.

Florence is a beautiful city with lots of culture and sights to see. I went round the Uffizi gallery amongst others and a very beautiful piazza which you shouldn’t miss if you visit Florence is the Piazza Michelangelo, which is a piazza above the city with gorgeous views of the Duomo. There is a lot of interesting history in Florence and Plus Florence hostel provided a stylish, relaxed yet budget base from which to explore the city.
