Food - Excellent! The Plymouth Arms is reknowned for its food in particular its steak and ale pie. There is a large variety of food available. Starters cost between £1.50 and £3 and can include, garlic mushrooms in butter, cheese and meat melt, soup and salad. Main meals are also varied they cost between £4.50 and £10 and are well worth it. They can include the afore mentioned steak and ale pie, lemon chicken, sunday roast and vegeatarian options ... ...between £1.50 and £5. The selection of desserts isnt as good as the selection of other foods. When I was there the choice was between profiteroles, icecream (various flavours) and fruit pie.
The size of the portions you are given is very large and most people tend to skip starters and dessert and just have the main meal. The prices as you can see are average and there tends to be something for every price range.
Location - St Fagans just outside of Cardiff. Approx 30min drive form central Cardiff.
Appearance - Inside it's very cosy looking in. It looks small but actually can fit in quite a large crowd. The seats are varied from table to table and you could find yourself sitting on anything from a rather hard wooden chair to a comfy padded chair to a long cushion covered bench. The walls are littered with hunting, farming, fishing items and various pictures. The tables will sit anything from 2 - 8 people depending on where you sit. I personally like to go right in the corner where it seems to be more cosy and private.
Drinks - nothing out of the ordinary - usual selection of beers, wines and spirits and lately since their increase in popularity alcopops.

Entertainment - There is no rowdy entertainment here. This is a place people come mainly for a nice meal and drink. There are one or two gambling machines and thats it. There may have been music playing in the background when I was there but if there was I dont remember it.
Beer Garden - There is a nice large beer garden which is great for during those long hazy summer evenings.
Suitable for families with children? - Yes. Especially in the summer when you can sit outside. The clientele tend to be quiet and polite and not given to sudden fights or loud bursts of profanity found in other pubs.
Suitable for couples? - Yes. With it's nice cosy atmosphere and small out of the way tables it can create the perfect romantic dinner place. It also tends to be fiarly quiet and you are able to talk without yelling or hearing other peoples conversations.
Accessibility - The car park is quite small and the turn off for the pub car park is quite difficult to find. I am not sure if any buses go near it. I do know a taxi from it to the centre of town will cost you about £12 so it might be a good idea to get a friend to drop you off and pick you up.
Overall - a nice friendly pub with great food and a great atmosphere
Advantages: Lovely old pub in beautiful surroundings Disadvantages: Vile staff, appalling service and average food
...at the castle opposite the Plymouth Arms and we took our guests there for some pre-wedding drinks. Out of courtesy we contacted the pub twice in the run up to the big day to let them know to expect a bus load of people arrive at lunchtime on a Saturday. Unfortunately for us we were absolutely appalled at the treatment our guests received at the hands of the megalomaniac 'manager' and his surly, disdainful and obnoxious bar staff. Service was painfully ... ...mortified at the way our guests were treated. Those who ate said the food was lukewarm and poor quality - much like the welcome we received. Sadly it seems the pub relies on the fact they have a captive audience of people visiting the museum and castle opposite but they absolutely do not deserve to be in business treating people the way they currently do. My advice - go next door to the fabulous Old Post Office. My husband and I, as well as our 40 ...

Advantages: Good food, good location Disadvantages: Need more bar staff
The Plymouth Arms is located in St. Fagans, an lovely little country village just on the outskirts of Cardiff. It's quite a large pub with a great beer garden for the summer. It concentrates mainly on the food trade and consequently it's not really a great place to go for just a drink, unless it's the summer and you're sitting outside. However, if you fancy a meal, and don't want to go to a restaurant this is the best place in Cardiff. It serves ... ...average bar food prices, but it's worth it.
The Hunters Chicken is fantastic and it's only about £8. In short, it's got great atmosphere, it's frequented by normal people, and serves great food. The only thing wrong with it is there's usually not enough staff behind the bar. ...

Advantages: Full of British history Disadvantages: Rough as a bucket of rusty nails
Plymouth seems to live simply by taking up all the failed planning applications turfed out by Exeter City Council.
A case in point is the Warner Village Cinema. Originally planned for Exeter, the city council decided not to grant permission for the project to start and so Plymouth welcomed it with open arms! Obviously a good decision, but to be honest, I would much rather have the cinema in Exeter, which is cleaner, much more pleasant (and obviously closer to home!)
There is no denying that Plymouth is a very historic place to visit and for stuff like the Plymouth Dome (much better than the Millennium version), the city museum and other attractions showing off the maritime heritage of Plymouth make it worthwhile.
However, actually being in Plymouth is a different matter. The last time I was in Plymouth, walking to a great little ...
