I am currently sitting in a building in Plymouth city centre watching the rain pour down from the heavens, the cars driving past the window and a post lady getting wet as she delivers her mail to the busy citizens of Plymouth. Hmm, from my window I can see the YMCA gym - lots of fit people in there - pretty cheap too! I envy those people currently in there sitting under a sunbed or in a sauna. How nice it would be to be there now...
Snap out of it!
Okeedokee, where do I start. Plymouth is a city, I have lived here all my life(yes pity me) and I suppose you could say I am a true Plymouthian. My parents are Plymouthian, so were my grandparents and their parents and so on. My family go back a long way in history. One of my great great great great great(not sure how many greats ago!)uncles was a lifeboat man. I suppose thats why I've never moved away. I love the history of this place, I love the sea and I love my family.

The sea is perhaps one of the major sites here. In the summer it is absolutely glorious on the Hoe (to all you Londoners, its a place not a prostitute) and it can be nice to take a boat trip. Or take a water taxi to Mountbatten. Theres a lovely pub there(I personally recommend the hot chocolates) and take a walk on the pier to watch the sunset into the sea. Lovely.

Alternatively you could visit the Barbican. Full of houses built in the 1500's with cobbled roads, pubs and shops galore and a great place to get yourself some traditional fish and chips. Boy, are they good! If you do stroll up to the Hoe make sure you get a Langage Farm Icecream, they are the best in Devon. Try Thunder and Lightning flavour, its rather good. Ooh, and I almost forgot, you MUST visit the fudge shop cos it is just the most gorgeous fudge ever.(Can't you tell I like my food!)

If you climb to the top of the Hoe you can marvel at Smeatons Tower(a kinda run down stripey lighthouse) and the Statue of Sir Francis Drake. Yup, this is the place he played bowles before setting off with the Armada, and did you know this is where the Pilgrim Fathers set off to go to America and settle down and breed a load of people obsessed with God...if you like that sort of thing you can visit the Mayflower Steps. Not far from the Mayflower Steps is the National Marine Aquarium. It is pretty good in here. Worth a visit although I personally reckon its a bit expensive. But thats tourism for you.

The Town Centre is filled with High Street shops like Woolworths, Next (also a Next Clearance shop), Debenhams, Dingles, etc. If you come from a bigger city than Plymouth you will probably think its crap for shopping. I personally think it is so I go shopping in Bristol...other than that if you like surfing there's a few surf shops dotted around the place which are pretty cool. Being a little weird, I like kooky things so my favourite shops are Blue Banana, Rhubarb and Some Bizzarre Clothing. Plymouth doesn't cater for non Kevs and Sharons so anyone into rock music might find it a little crap here.(i.e me!) Dance music is big here and so clubs cater for all dance types. OK heres a list of the best clubs in Plymouth:
The Candy Store - pretty expensive and pretty hard house.
JFKs - in Plymouth it stands for 'Just For Kids', however if you don't mind looking old, the music here is great for anyone who likes rock, hiphop, chart and cheese. A good nite guaranteed. It is a hole but its a lovely hole.
Millenium Complex - consists of Lansons which plays 70's and 80's, Boulevard which plays chart, and Blessed which plays dance music. Quite a nice combination of sounds. Entry is 70p on a thursday, £12 all inclusive on a Friday and £4 on a saturday. Drinks can be pricey but they often have cheap deals on vodka drinks. Get here early to avoid the queues.
Destinys - for people who like a bit of fun. Plays different styles of music every night. Recommend any night.
Zeros - a popular gay club.

I personally recommend avoiding all other clubs not mentioned here, especially if they are on Union Street. Hey I forgot to mention that...the majority of the clubs are on Union Street so you don't need to walk far. Destinys is a 10 minute walk away in the Warner Brothers complex.

OK, for those of youwho like something alternative try these:
The Cooperage - live bands most nights.
Heroes - check out the toilets - see through doors in the girls (its so hard to pee when you think someones looking at you) and TVs with camera footage of the girls loos in the boys loos. How cool is that?!
The Good Companions - kareoke 7 days a week.
Le Kepi Blanc - £6 all inclusive on a Monday
The Barbican pub crawl - pretty scary especially on a Saturday nite.

Thats pretty much all that the nightlife has to offer here. The students here are great but the locals...well, they can be kinda scary especially with that accent! Here's a guide on local speak:
Janner = a Plymouthian with a strong accent, can be seen as an insult.
All right me lover = a friendly welcome often used by taxi drivers, don't get scared if a bloke says it to you and you are a bloke. They aren't chatting you up, its just what they say down here.
Helluva = Hell of a. This confuses a lot of people.
A = Hey

If you do want to venture out of the city centre, I recommend visiting some beaches and Dartmoor. Because the South West is a peninsula we get a lot of rain from the Atlantic. However when its sunny its gorgeously hot. Check out the National Fireworks competition. Its usually packed but is absolutely brilliant. Also the Radio 1 Roadshow which is pretty cool. But beware, it does get busy and parking is limited.

I've been sitting here for ages and its still raining outside. Oh well. If you would like to visit my lovely city then come on down. You will be more than welcome me lovers. Ooh-Aarr! You'll luv my Devon cussterd and my clotted creem and my tea and scones. Ooh-Aar!! (Warning:do not take the mick out of the locals - they are pretty tough people and you might find yourself in hospital, and do watch out for drugs, keep your drinks covered cos drug rapes do happen). Have a nice day!

PS. If you are wondering. I used to have an accent but I lost it thank god!
