The Po Lin Monastery is situated in the Lantau Island and it is one of the most well-established Buddhist monasteries in Hong Kong. Serving as a Buddhist retreat, this monastery was originally built by three monks in 1920 with only a shrine dedicated to Buddha. It was then renamed "Po Lin Monastery" in 1924. The main building at the monastery is the temple, although the decorations inside are very simple and does not tend to overwhelm visitors. This hall is still used by the monks to say their daily prayers at 5am and again between 3pm and 4pm in the afternoon.
