We spent a week in Istanbul last summer and stayed in this wonderful hotel. It is not the biggest hotel in the world and only has 16 rooms. Each room is however given a unique name. Each room is named after a poem which is a sweet thing.
The hotel itself is situated in a great place. It is in the centre of an area called Old Sultanahmet. It is essentially in the centre of all the tourist area but this does not mean it is bad. There are a lot of restaurants nearby and most of the restaurants owners speak good English so there should be no problem with the language. The hotel is also about 5-10 minutes from one of the main sites in Istanbul; the Blue Mosque which is a beautiful mosque. It is also extremely close to other attractions such as the Aya Sofia, Grand Bazaar or the Topkapi Palace. Every day we walked to our destinations and never found the journey to be too far from the hotel, even in the mid summer heat.
The original room we stayed in ( I forget the name) was a fairly bog standard room. It had a double bed, bathroom and nice view. Air conditioning is in all the rooms luckily! However, after a few days we were asked if we wanted to move rooms as a better one has become available. We looked at the room and immediately said yes. This room, the 'All of a Sudden' room, was beautiful. It was much bigger than our previous room and had a little balcony which had an amazing view.
We also found the staff at the hotel to be extremely polite. We didn't really ask for too much but we asked more general things about the area and where to go in the evening and they were all very polite and went over and above the call of duty to help. When we moved rooms they were very helpful and made it painless.
The hotel also had a free internet connection in the main area and there was someone on the main desk 24 hours a day so if there's anything that you need then they will help. There is a dining room in the hotel as well as some nice outdoor seats which is where they serve breakfast. I cant really comment on food as we only had breakfast there and this was fairly standard but nothing to write home about!
I dont remember exactly how much we paid for our room but I know the whole holiday (inc flights) cost us about £300 each so its very reasonable.
Overall I must say that the hotel made our stay so much better. Because of its location we were very close to everything that we wanted to see. The area where it is located is also very safe. We never felt uneasy during our stay.
