At first I had an extremely dim view of the Polar Bar. I'd only been there for a drink a couple of times and found the staff to be over worked and stressed and the cost of a glass of wine enough to warrant a re-mortgage on the house.

However a year on and I have visited the Polar Bar on no less than 10 occassions in the last couple of months and not once have I been disappointed.
The Polar Bar is situated on Wilbraham Road, Chrolton.

The Polar bar consists mainly of Chorltonians (residents of Chorlton and the surrounding area) and for those of you who are not familiar with Chorlton, chorltonians are a mixed bunch of students, hippys, business men and women, rich house wives with many children and the youth of today(which lets face it comprises every genre of person)
The service is usually quick and effective, inside if you order food the bar ...

Advantages: Excellent sites and enclosures for the animals who seem to be well treated and happy Disadvantages: The toilets and food prices
...It was a muggy Sunday afternoon in August when myself, David (aka Skinbop72), Jennie my sister, Johnny her hubby & my adorable, loveable & the apple of my eye niece Lucy visited Belfast zoo. To be truthful Lou was probably too young (she’s only just 12months) to get any real experience from the visit – but I’ll take her again!
I love Belfast Zoo and have visited it on numerous occasions – l now even have the pleasure of not living far away from it! I have been able to see the extensive renovations and enlargements made for the benefit of all the animals housed. I can remember visiting the zoo as part of an organised trip by my branch of the Girls Brigade. I know l was under 10 at the time but l remember the polar bears pacing back and forth in these tiny cages with bars and water pouring through. Even...

On the outskirts of the downs, you will find an entrance to Bristol Zoo. This isn't really the place for a discussion as to the merits or otherwise of zoos, but whatever your position on this, it can't be denied that Bristol Zoo has improved very markedly in the last couple of decades. When I first visited (about 20 years ago), a lot of the enclosures were still of the "concrete and bars" mould, and there were several animals (eg polar bears) which didn't really have a place in such a small zoo at all. In recent years, however, almost the entire zoo (which is only 8 acres in size, although it feels much larger) has been redesigned and landscaped, and many enclosures are now populated with smaller animals (eg capybara) that make the most of the limited space. There's still the odd...

...beautiful cross-country ski trails from the hotel. I really enjoyed walking in the forests although the temperature was around minus 30!
On the ground floor there is a very small swimming pool. I found the water freezing although the locals seemed to think it was warm! There are single sex saunas next to the pool; you could spot the foreigners by the swimsuits!
The hotel also has a small gym. I felt we had all had more that enough exercise! However if you want to use it ,it will cost you 42 euros for 10 sessions.
The hotel offers numerous interesting sounding relaxing treatments. For example I was intrigued a treatment on offer named polar moments. This involves hot needles and a rolling pin! I gave it a miss.
There is a good sized bar attached to the restaurant. Every Friday the locals arrive for a night of ballroom dancing...
