Pomorie Hotel-Sunny Beach, Bulgaria The hotel itself was very clean and appeared to have a cleaning staff who worked tirelessly the entire time we were there. The pool, communal areas and rooms were kept immaculate at all times despite the numerous holiday makers who were less than tidy themselves.
The staff at the hotel were welcoming, polite, courteous, and helpful.
The "food" was not fit for human consumption. Putting aside the fact that the taste was appalling and lacked variety, the food was dangerous to eat. The hot food was kept at room temperature or just above and the cold food was "cool" but not cold. To prevent bacteria growth in food, cold food must be kept at 5 C and hot food must be kept at atleast 60 C. I didn't need a food thermometer to tell me that the food was not being kept at the appropriate temperature to prevent foodborne illnesses and was crawling with bacteria.
My husband and I used the restaurant at the hotel on the first day and by lunch time on the second day, where we only looked at the food and did not eat it, we decided for our own safety and for fear of getting sick from food poisoning, which would ruin our holiday, we should take our all meals away from the hotel.
Aside from the fact you could potentially be putting your children's health at risk by letting them eat the food, it is a very nice place for families. Although we do not have children, the children we did see at the hotel seemed happy as aside from the pool, there were a lot of activities to keep them busy.
The hotel was gilding the lily a bit when they advertised they had "Entertainment". If the hotel were located in the UK they would have got done under the Trade Descriptions Act.
There was no air conditioning and we had to sleep with the balcony door open. Our room was situated at the front of the hotel and it was quite noisy from the holiday makers who carried on until 5 o'clock in the morning out in the street and the continuous "thumping" coming from the disco directly across the road.
If you are a shopper and are keen to purchase knock off goods and tat, you will be in your element! There is street after street and stall after stall of knock off clothes, handbags, watches, perfume, etc. But beware of the constant hassling you get from taxi drivers and employees of restaurants who stand outside to try to get you to go in for a meal. They will not take NO for an answer and follow you down the road hoping to get you to change your mind. And in some instances grabbing your arm and trying to turn you around to go back to the restaurant. They are very insistent and could be intimidating for some people.
Overall it was more like being at Butlins, the only difference was the weather was fantastic. Weather aside, we won't be going back!
