After a nine hour drive from Glasgow we were looking forward at arriving at our destination however I was a little worried as the week had cost us less than £300 plus you were to get £100 vouchers to spend! Too good to be true I had warned my husband on the months running up to the holiday but my concerns as usual fell on deaf ears and he was sure that it was just price wars due to credit crunch.

Now I am used to going away in a touring caravan and having to use 70's toilet blocks so I am no holiday snob however this year we were to have a chalet which should be a treat.

On arrival at the site my heart fell straight away as everything looked so run down. We collected our keys only to be told you had to pay for electricity cards and feeling a bit depressed already I headed for the toilet in the main arcade area. The seats and handles were broken and the mirrors were so old they were all brown round the rims. The toilets were also really dirty. I felt the tears coming but took a deep breath and walked over to our apartments. Now we hadn't paid a lot and they were to be basic but nothing could have prepared me. I have relatives who have lived in the worst street in some of the worst areas of Glasgow and these apartments reminded me of an area classed as emergency housing. As we walked in I my eyes were drawn to the blue bath with flaky paint, then to the plastic chairs that had a huge crack and don't ask me why but I had a delayed reaction to the foul smell. When it hit me I burst our crying.

We ventured over to the eating area where we would have £100 vouchers to spend but again the dirt and smell hit me and quite honestly I would not have eaten there.
My young children were also stopping passers by and telling them our cabin was really horrible and smelly and was there's the same.

Even after a 9 hour drive and with no where to go we decided to ask for a refund. The staff were great and said they would upgrade us. We went to another apartment which was up some rusty old stairs and let to the shared balcony. These apartments had been painted with newish kitchens but you could see the wear and tear and the grimy tiles in the bathroom. Even although these were more acceptable and this is what I would have expected for everyone we still did not want to stay in such a depressing environment. Again the staff totally understood and refunded us without too much bother. We phoned Haven to find out if they had any resorts close by and luckily there was one 20 minutes up the road. It was by no means the best Haven we had been to but I sighed with relief as it was clean and maintained with a lovely modern restaurant and swimming pool.

No one deserves to stay in these conditions. i have heard that this site has to be decorated and new accommodation built but they should close it until this is done or at least warn you when you are booking so as you can make an informed decision. To log this review i have had to award a star but i would not even give them one.

Don't blame you for going elsewhere!

This is credible first review with lots of good information. Compared with many first reviews we get, it's a masterpiece. Still, the narrative reads a bit like a "stream of consciousness" effort. In future your reviews will be better received if you pay closer attention to grammar and punctuation. It's always a good idea to re-read reviews before you publish, just to catch any glitches. Welcome to the site, and I hope your next family excursion is more pleasant.
