The placement of Porec is ideal. It is on the coast of a very beautiful country, but close enough to Slovenia and Venice for day trips.

The national food is great, every Brit will have no problem with it because it is very similar to our own food with meat dishes and pasta based dishes.

If you like to be entertained, there is one icecream shop which you must visit - and don't be afraid of not being able to find it - they will find you! A speciality of this icecream shop is not just it's fine icecream, but the tricks and jokes that the shop assistants play! One member of staff will stand at one end of the court yard, the other will stand outside the shop - about 10 metres away. The one by the shop throughs a ball of icecream through the air and the member of staff on the other side of the court yard catches it.... in his mouth! You will be entertained here, but it isn't the only reason to go to Porec.
If I was to write all the reasons for going to Porec, I would be here for 7 days - the 7 days I spent there recalled because there was not one single problem.
All the people in the town really want to see more tourists - they are the main source of income, so they are really freindly and most of them speak English :) With cruises along the coast and coach tours through Istria, you will not be bored here!
Advantages: warm, clean seas; bays and islands; a dramatic coastline Disadvantages: the bees!!

Porec is the centre of the region’s tourist industry with a wide range of hotels, cafes, bars and restaurants. Little stalls line the harbour selling items to the tourists – seashells, swimwear, jewellery, glass painting, clothing and footwear, homemade orange schnapps etc. Take a walk through the cobbled streets in the evenings when the old town becomes a hive of activity, alive with holidaymakers of every ... ...shops that stay open until late in the evening.
Porec’s Roman heritage is distinct with a main street named Decumanus and a 13th Century Roman house. There are Gothic and Baroque houses of the 16th and 17th Centuries, old stone Venetian-style houses, narrow cobbled streets, mosaic frescoes, a crypt and a Basilica.
I decided one warm June morning to visit the island of St. Nikola. As I have mentioned earlier the Hotel Fortuna (the Neptun’s ...

...and this is where lively Porec is. Porec is a gorgeous fishing harbour, that has transformed itself into a tourists' dream.
Firstly (and arguably most importantly ) food - Try a 'gyros', which is a natvie kebab, often to be found in mobile snack huts. They are lamb, salad, often come with dips/ mayonnaise, are very very cheap and are absolutely gorgeous after a day of sunbathing. We often ate one in the daytime sat looking at the sea, as they are ... ...activities to keep everyone happy. As the town is small you can keep costs down by not really needing public transport - thus you get to appreciate so much of Porec as you can always be out and about. A definate thumbs up...just make sure you wear your insect repellant! ...

Advantages: Lots to do and see!!Trips to Venice Disadvantages: Language barriers although not a big problem
I travelled to Porec in Croatia last year and found it to be the closest to paradise i have found so far on my travels. I stayed in the Hotel Pical which is just a 10 minute walk from the town. The hotel was fantastic and the facilities including the restaurant were amazing. I found Porec itself to be a calm envvironment with plenty to see and do. Some great bars and lovely restaurants in the marina. I would go back tomorrow but would hope that it hasn't been ruined by tourists. During my weeks holiday i only heard a few people speaking english (very different from past holidays to Turkey!!). The people of Croatia are lovely and although language barriers are a common problem, they make ...

Advantages: Easily accessible by car from Europe, still value for money, lovely beaches Disadvantages: everytime you tell your friends you've been there you'll have to answer the 'but what about the war?' question :-)
No, it's not a dangerous place and there aren't snipers waiting in the bushes!
Phew, I'm glad I've gotten that out of the way before I launch into this review! As part of a recent European driving holiday my Significant Other and I headed to the coast of Croatia, to the seaside town of Porec. We drove down from Munich through Ljubljana in Slovenia and then on to Porec in Croatia, a trip of around 5 hours, so not too far to travel. To say we didn't know what to expect would have been an understatement! Would we be driving through a countryside strewn with burnt out houses and in the aftermath of the war would there be widespread poverty and the crime that results from this situation?
I'm glad to say, in the case of Porec at least, the answer was a resounding no. It is a seaside holiday resort, simply thronging with tourists ...

Advantages: Beautiful mountain scenery, very cheap, freindly locals Disadvantages: Having to travel to do things other than ski, walk or cycle
After seeing how my opinion on Porec, in Croatia was liked, I felt it was probably time for another opinion on a place that could do with more visitors!
I guess we pick 'em hey? first Croatia then Slovenia for Summer holidays, but my preconcieved ideas of a war torn country we soon gone, just as I was nicely surprised with the beautiful countryside in Croatia, Kranjka Gora was a place that I was totally surprised with in Slovenia.
Kranjka Gora is situated in the Alps by the borders of Austria and Italy (it is possible to cycle into either country from the town) which means the scenery is excellent, and ideal if you are into walking or cycling.
The town is actually a ski resort with many slopes around, so during the summer season the town is very quiet, which is surprisingly nice!
Local transport is good and if you go ...
