The port itself is based on an old fishingvillage, which has been extended – from what I have been told. There are many shops and restaurants, but, beware of the toilets. They are not very clean – for example we went for a meal in the port and the toilet were right next door to where they prepared there food and the toilet weren't' very clean – I couldn’t bring myself to go, so I waited until I got back to the hotel.
There a lots of things to buy there special is leather and it is really cheap, I bought some belts and my dad who is crazy about sandals bought 3 pairs of leather sandals.
The jewellery beware some of it isn’t stamped like our jewellery is, I am not saying it isn’t real, not some of it isn’t stamped. My mum was going to buy a necklace it has ruby’s and sapphires in it, she was paying £350 English money, which was cheap for what it was, but, she wasn’t going to get anything to say that it was real gold or real stones, she nearly bought it but then decided not to bother, she wanted something to say what is was or at least a stamp for that sort of money, but, nothing was offered.
We went of the catamaran which was good, we saw the dolphins at the front of the boat, but with the movement I felt really sick (this has never bothered me before) but this did.
We stopped out at sea so some people could have a swim, and would you believe it someone who couldn’t swim yes that’s right couldn’t swim jumped in the sea and nearly drowned, he went underneath the boat, and someone has to go in and rescue him. Stupid or what, unfortunately due to this stupid person we had to go back sooner. Even though this happened it was a great ride out, it took about 2 hrs all in all.
There was also a old Viking ship which we didn’t go on because me children were scared of it, so we missed out on that, but, the people I spoke to who had been on this said it was good.
There was a lot a glass bottom boat ride this was rubbish, we went out to sea and someone went underneath the boat the encourage the fish to come and her fed them and then we went back it took ½ all in all and it wasn’t worth its money at all.
On a evening a Port El Kantaoui it all wakes up and is quite lively, you can get your portraits done and it isn’t expensive at all, I got my daughters done, it takes about 1 hour or so but it is well worth the wait, it is only done in pencil though not colours, but it is still recommend it.
Also on a evening in the very centre of the town there is a water fall, and on a evening about 9 p.m some music starts playing and the water starts dancing and it changes colour, this is lovely to watch, and a lot of people gather round to watch it.
They like to sell pot things – cups, plates. Etc, these are cheap and very unusual design and bright colours. Also there is a shop just in the entrance that sell onyx if you like that sort of thing, there are not expensive either, but very heavy.
We spent ages feeding the fishes and watching fisherman bringing in the catch.
I really recommend you visit Port El Kantaoui you will love the atmosphere, the only thing that you may not like is that they try to sell you things that you may not want. You have got to be firm and say no and walk away if you don’t want it.
