Port Lucaya Resort & Yacht Club, Freeport

Advantages: Beautiful resort hotel, great facilities!
Disadvantages: Not easy on the pocket!

...DISNEY'S YACHT CLUB The Yacht Club at Walt Disney World has to be my favourite hotel in all of the world (Disney World that it!) and as many Ciao-ers will know I have stayed in and reviewed a LOT of Disney Hotels! I love this hotel because the service is impeccable down to the staff who open and close the doors for you when you enter and exit the hotel. The staff are also dressed in a clean nautical theme and lobby is expertly themed with low ceilings, benches and port holes! Check-in is always fast and efficient and the concierge is knowledgeable and able to secure most dining and other activities that guests require. The communal areas are all beautiful with lots of great touches: kids love the large globe in the lobby and even the individual towels I the public rest rooms are a rare luxury in this day and age! ...Everyone knows there is excellent diving in the Carribean. It is also well known that there are a lot of unsafe diving companies out there. I've been to the Bahamas to dive twice and both times I used UNEXO at Port Lucaya on Grand Bahama Island. They are excellent. The place is run by knowledgable divers and everything smacks of professionalism. They have shark dives and dolphin dives as well. Bahamas diving has lots of reef fish and plants and amazing overall colour. There are 20 or so dives going out each day.... Read review

..., and they don’t obviously travel everywhere on the island. The Resort Area ---------------------- The main place to stay is around the Port Lucaya area. I stayed at the Port Lucaya Hotel & Yacht club which was a 160 room 3 star hotel located beside the port. The area can get quite busy with American tourists as many ‘park’ their yachts alongside the hotel. The main source of entertainment was Count Basie square. Every night there is a band and performers such as limbo dancers – all free to watch. There are several shops, bars and restaurants encircling the square. The shops and markets are pretty poor – either selling touristy crap (which strangely the American tourists love!) or designer labels (Gucci etc) that are probably cheaper in the UK!
