I had been to egypt a couple of times before and I was looking forward to going back and seeing more of the country and to experince more history and culture. ...in Cairo, I woudn't recommend Port Said as a two week holiday desination, but it's an interesting place.
It is situated on the northern entrance to the Suez Canal on the Mediterranean coast,.
Port Said has been bombed many times during conflicts and the damage from these can still be seen around the city.
It has been extensively rebuilt since, and Port Said does not get busy or crowded with local tourists ... more

I think that there is more to see and do in Cairo, I woudn't recommend Port Said as a two week holiday desination, but it's an interesting place.

It's not the average place to go on holiday but it holds turn-of-the-century colonial architecture and several good museums and gardens which you should visit if you go there. We went in july, it was very hot and sticky. You need to drink lots of water especailly if your walking around.
The food prices are cheap if you eat out but we where provided with packed lunches. I dont think i would have brought from the local shops/markets.
We went on an organised tour ina big group and saw the sights and went round the city.
i would recommend it to people into acient history of egypt.
I am an officer in the Merchant Navy and work for a large muilti national cruise company, I spend more than 6 months a year travelling with my job and have seen some fantasic sites and visited some brilliant countries. I have a wealth of experience when foreign holiday destinations are involved.
Recently the ship I was on docked in PortSaid in Egypt. I was offered the day off to go sight seeing to Cairo and in particular visit the Pyramids at the Giza plateau.
Ever since I was young I had wanted to see these great sights. So I thought - brilliant and jumped at the chance. I had been advised by other crew members to avoid taking large amounts of money and jewerelly as I may have become an attractive target for certain types of individuals.
The bus ride from PortSaid to Cairo was 3 and a half hours, if your doing something ...
