Advantages Good for history lovers

Disadvantages Hot and sticky in July

I went to Port Said asit was one of the desinations on the itenery on a cruise that I went on.
I remember it as being very dusty place.

I didnt stop there as we had to get back on the cruise ship in the evening so i can't review on the hotels or resturants.

I had been to egypt a couple of times before and I was looking forward to going back and seeing more of the country and to experince more history and culture.

I think that there is more to see and do in Cairo, I woudn't recommend Port Said as a two week holiday desination, but it's an interesting place.

It is situated on the northern entrance to the Suez Canal on the Mediterraneancoast,.

Port Said has been bombed many times during conflicts and the damage from these can still be seen around the city.

It has been extensively rebuilt since, and Port Said does not get busy or crowded with local tourists seeking sun and sea. Its not that kind of place.

It's not the average place to go on holiday but it holds turn-of-the-century colonial architecture and several good museums and gardens which you should visit if you go there.
We went in july, it was very hot and sticky. You need to drink lots of water especailly if your walking around.

The food prices are cheap if you eat out but we where provided with packed lunches. I dont think i would have brought from the local shops/markets.

We went on an organised tour ina big group and saw the sights and went round the city.

i would recommend it to people into acient history of egypt.

I would echo Julia's (Wearsidelass) comments - a bit more would have been useful. As Port Said is not on the tourist trail, how did you end up going there?

Hi - enjoyed reading this review but I would have really liked to have read more about Port Said. Perhaps if you gave some details regarding pricing of food, gifts etc. and let us know more about the type of food, gifts etc. that are available. I hope you don't mind my comments as I hope they are constructive. (I received lots of constructive criticism when I first joined Ciao too so don't worry. Read other people's opinions and you will get a feel for what is needed - I thought I would never be able to submit reviews as long as other people's but, you know, we get there in the end!) Julia.
