I have used PORTLAND a couple of times now and find them simple and easy. I say an advantage is that it is EXCITING, becaused when you've finished you know, it wont be long before your going on your jolly hollidays - just like I am in a few weeks.
So booking on line is easy, Portland-direct.co.uk takes you to the distinctive purple site, and they are consitent with the colouring right through to the invoiceing and tickets. When you've decided your destination resort, number of passengers, dates etc - it is really quick and simple. Complete the holiday finder panel on the front page of the web site and you will then be presented with a variety of hotels, these can be viewed by price, date, departure airport it will be up to you.
Scroll through the offerings, which are basically as you would find in a holiday brouchure, you can click on the picture to have more information about the hotel and surrounding area you are looking at.
If you have a few you want to check on its simple to click all the way through to filling in your desired options to check the final price. They offer a variety of extras such as insurance, pre seat booking, in-flight meal options, taxi transfers even off airport parking etc.
When you've selected the holiday of your choice, they ask for a % of the total fare. The amount will depend on the time left before the actual holiday. This can be paid using Credit or Debit card (there is a 2% charge for Credit cards, but that is becoming more common) or you can telephone to make payment arrangements (I think it is possible to pay by cheque, but I never have done). Then you get an email confirmation, followed a couple of days later by a Holiday Invoice.
This September I booked for a holiday in December (carnt wait - so excited) but the Holiday Invoice had the wrong ages for the kids on. I telephoned on the given number, which was answered very quickly and whoever I was talking to was really helpful, made the changes and asked if there was anything else. A few days later the revised invoice was delivered, but due to the changes I'd asked for this threw out the insurance details and also the total balance due. So I made another call, and again was greated very well and dealt with very satisfactorily. A replacement invoice was received and everything was now correct.
I have just paid the final balance, and am awaiting the tickets, these should come 4 weeks before travel, I've used the company before so do not expect a problem.
The resort and hotel I have booked could have been booked with any Thompson travel agents and I have looked up on Travel Advisor to get feedback and I realy dont envisage a problem.
Booking a holiday through Portland Direct is a really relaxing experience. It is so easy, quick and simple. The pages load relatively quickly (compared to some of the other sites I've looked at) and the holiday prices are very reasonable.
I love booking holidays, I wish I could book a new one for us all every week.
