Porto Velho is the capital of the State of Rondonia. We arrived late at night and I would recommend trying not to do so, since we did not like some of the local characters. Overall, reaching porto velho by land is quite an experience in itself. You pass through the forest at some points and there are enough potholes to keep your interest alive and your guts in exercise. The main road if Porto Velho is called Avenida 7 de Setembro. A good place to buy guns, if you need to, or mining gear, if you fancy digging out your own gold. Alternatively, you can buy gold from on of the local shops, or, if you have found yours, you can sell it.
