Advantages Advantages great variety of goods, nice vibe

    Disadvantages Disadvantages gets very crowded

Portobello Market is one of my favourite markets in London. It takes place every Friday and Saturday, whereby the Friday market is a lot smaller. This is also why I prefer to go on fridays if I have the chance. It's less crowded and still offers a wide range of goods. The Saturday gets extremely crowded. Portobello market stretches along Portobello Road and offers Antiques in the first section, fruits and vegetables in the second section, and second-hand clothing, young designers, jewelry and other used bits and pieces in the end section. Prices have gone up lately, however, most of the stall ... more

Advantages Advantages Some interesting oddities on sale.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Often cold/wet, long street hard for people that get tired or cannot walk too far.

I love markets, but I had never been to Portobello Market until my girlfriend got some train tickets for us to go up to London for my Christmas present. I had to find someplace to go and remembering the Clinton’s recent visit, I was prompted to satisfy my curiosity. I have to say I am not particularly fascinated by antiques and nor did I want to spend any money. This could have been a bad thing, but thankfully the antiques in the market are mainly concentrated at one end of the market, which runs for what seems like miles down the Portobello Road. There is pretty much everything out on ... more

Advantages Advantages Varied culture and an exciting day out

Disadvantages Disadvantages Be careful of pickpocketers

"Portobello Road is the new place to be." But of course, it's not. It's been there for decades, it's just that people are only starting to cotton on to the value of a little area in London brimming with originality, culture and enough innovation to envelope any normal person. The hustle and bustle of Portobello never fails to inspire, and once you have visited the area, you are counting down the days until the next market. The Friday market is smaller than the Saturday one (which I would recommend) but both are worth a visit. Whether you are searching for antiques, food, clothes or furniture ... more

Advantages Advantages very unique, perfect for buying presents

Disadvantages Disadvantages quality not always at best

This is one of london latest trends - following fresh in the footsteps of camden, portabello offers a unique range of goods for the trendy, upcoming crowd. The main market has a very urban streetwear streak with the occassional glitch with a very eccentric twist. Cheap is the name of the game here and haggling is a viable option. This market supplies a very colourful and buzzing atmosphere and generally is best at weekends. The goods here are very diverse and knicks knacks of all shapes and sizes may be picked up. Portabello will guarantee you a shopping trip with a difference. Portabello can ... more
