The Portsmouth Arms Danebury Road Hatch Warren Basingstoke 01256 334036 A Hall and Woodhouse Brewery situated off Danebury Road and next to Hatch Warren playing fields. Built on the land owned by Lord Portsmouth and managed by Paul and his excellent team, here's a glimpse into what to expect incase you are around this vicinity and fancy a cold pint of Tanglefoot. *** How To Get There and Opening Hours ******* Relatively easy. Situated just off the M3 on either junction 6 or 7. Danebury Road is sign posted and just off Cliddesden Lane. If approaching from junction 6 then after 395 yards take ... more

Advantages Advantages Lovely thatched roofed pub

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Depends who's serving!

The Portsmouth Arms Public House, Basingstoke WHERE IS IT? This is a delightful looking pub situated very close to the M3 (junction 7) in Basingstoke. The pub was built next to the Hatch Warren estate. The first time it was built, shortly afterwards it caught fire and burnt down. I think it was caused by an electrical fault. The pub was then rebuilt and opened for a second time around July 1997. As you travel along Cliddesden Lane, you come across The Portsmouth Arms, which has a nice, fairly large, green grass frontage surrounded by a simple wooden fence. WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? There is ... more

    Advantages Advantages Serves beer

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Everything else

This pub tries to do folksy, if you like that kitch cutesy thatched roof, the ambiance provided by the building will not be a problem. The ambiance provided by the staff and some of the locals may be. It is an estate chain pub and that means it has rough estate people in it. The staff are very friendly with them and also quite lewd, rude and crude. There is sometimes the atmosphere of the 'punch as hard as you can machine' from the fairground. It's not a nice place to be when busy, lots of nasty types and since the landlord left even more seem to be making it there local. You know the type bad ... more

Advantages Advantages Only Pub in Hatch Warren

Disadvantages Disadvantages Terrible Service and behaviour from at least one member of staff

I have been to this pub a few times and found it ok, nothing special. The Portsmouth Arms misadventures in 2010. The ex landlord was almost run down by a punter on purpose, the Police were involved. Bar staff argued with a punter and had glasses thrown at them. Police were called. A lot of fights according to a member of staff there and some staff appearing high at times. Great shame these things go on in any pub, unfortunately this one cannot escape it's past at present. A new brush perhaps. Hopefully that would solve the problems here and allow it to move on ina more stable fashion. It ... more
