Portsmouth is an island city on the south coast of England, is located opposite the Isle of Wight and is between Gosport and Hayling Island. The city has rich history with the dockyard having played a vital role in the navy for hundreds of years. Southsea, the southern region of Portsmouth, is a typical British seaside resort with a long shingle beach, piers and other attractions. Portsmouth is the home of the Royal Navy so has lots of history to share. Part of the dockyard is open to visitors and has a number of attractions including HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, the Mary Rose and the Royal Naval Museum. HMS victory was Nelson's Flagship in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 - it has been restored to it's original condition so that you can go on board and look around - its really quite cool being on a ...

I was born in Portsmouth 32 years ago, however my parents could afford the ferry fare back to Gosport, where I spent the next 16 years thinking the world was still flat and flares actually did come from nearby Flareham (sorry local joke). I went back to Portsmouth aged 16 to work and moved there to live when I was 18. I took up residence in a compact and bijous flat of the latest ergonomic design, okay it was a bedsit that was so small I could ... ...place to visit.

Portsmouth (or Pompey as it is really known) has been the naval maritime centre of Britain for the last 500 years, it is perfectly placed on the coast with a very long stretch of pebble beach, a funfair, pier, some very good shops, numerous places to eat and drink, nightclubs galore, various family attractions, and is perfectly situated to visit areas like the New Forest, Arundel and the Isle of Wight, or a good stop off point ...

Advantages: A brill city to visit. Disadvantages: none..............
Portsmouth is a town on the south coast well known for many reasons.
There are the docks where you can get the P&O ferries to the continent like: ST.MALO, CAEN, CHERBOURG, LE-HAVRE, BILBAO and of course there is the other ferries over to the Isle of Wright and to Gosport aswell. You can take your car or go as footpassengers, the prices are quite reasonable aswell. They do special offers aswell like a three day cruise to Bilbao in Spain.
Then there ... ...which is the homeground of Portsmouth F.C until they build the new one. Which you can get to by car , bus or a train at Fratton station which is the stop before the main one for portsmouth. Which is hany with all them out of town supporters , keeping them away from the shopping area.
Then there is Southsea where there is a beach(which is stoney). Many hotels are here aswell to cater for all pockets. There is a funfair here with many rides, and the ...

Advantages: Suitable for all the family. Very interesting. Disadvantages: Can be pricey and can't be done all in one day.
...If you want a fun day out that is suitable for everyone then I must suggest Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. There is plenty to do and its not possible to do it all in one day. However, saying that you can purchase an all inclusive ticket (passport). This allows you to visit all three ships and the various other attractions. This is currently £15.50 for an adult and £12.50 for a senior citizen and children. It sounds expensive but it works out much cheaper than paying for the attractions separately. The good news with this ticket is that it has an unlimited time period on it so you can always return at a later date. One thing to bear in mind is you can only visit each attraction once. There is also a season ticket, which allows you unlimited access to all the attractions for 2 years (this is £28 for adults). These are both the better...

I flew with a plane from berlin to Heathrow Airport and then we were drove to portsmouth by tawi, organised by the language school.
I travelled to England with three other German girls and we lived in different families.
But now something to Portsmouth!

Advantages: Loads to do, good public transport service, great choice of shops Disadvantages: Parts of the City are a bit run down
...I have lived on the South Coast of England all my life and have to admit that I take it for granted and sometimes find it hard to comprehend why people would want to flock to Portsmouth & Southsea every time we get the slightest bit of sun. I don't live in Portsmouth but have to admit that if the weather is good my family and I tend to go to Southsea for the afternoon ourselves - even though we live in a small seaside resort ourselves.
So what attracts so many people to the City of Portsmouth? It isn't the most glamorous City in England - however there is loads to see and do and as well as boasting a booming City Centre area Portsmouth is also well known for its' seaside resort Southsea, so I guess the fact that visitors to Portsmouth can combine a trip to the shops with an afternoon at the beach helps to ensure that Portsmouth...
