I have to say that the people who run this establishment are charismatic and two of the most helpful people I have encountered in the travel industry. The exterior of the Pic-Pau is one of exquisite charm with its slanted roofs of criss-cross red tiles, white painted calc walls decorated with royal blue and white azulejos. I am pleased to see that they have kept all the traditional tiles throughout the hotel because they are so lovely and you only ever see such beauty in Portuguese establishments. Good central location, nice apartments Advantages: Nice apartments near the centre Disadvantages: Distance from the beach. Rubbish swimming pool The Alvormar Apartments are in a quiet but central location 5 minutes from the centre where the restaurants and shops are situated. The beach is 11 minutes in the other direction. Bus stop and taxi rank are 2 minutes away as is a large supermarket. Nice spacious apartments with fridge,kettle, microwave , television and telephone. Up there Advantages: Location, style, welcome, comfort, facilities, food, value Disadvantages: None, except to those who might prefer swankiness and flunkeys ...in the case of the Casa do Visconde at Chanceleiros, I shall definitely want to go again. My stay there was among the most enjoyable I’ve had anywhere, and I’ve stayed in a lot of places. This judgement does need to be put in the context that I have a slightly individual taste in hotels, tending to prefer the small and independent to the large and chain-corporate. LUXURY AND CLASSIC!! Advantages: Location, decoration and design, service, etc. Disadvantages: none... ...their lobby and exterior. Hotel Palacio Estoril is different. Its room are very well decorated, with unequalled furniture and design. My room was a double room. It is well equipped but it still has a lot of space. The quality of housekeeping was also great. Unlike other hotels that they do the best only for the first night; here, they did everything perfect for both nights I stayed. You'll be surprised for the number of pillow on the bed (actually, ... ...I can sleep), the weight of the wooden chair (seriously, a little bit too heavy), amount and varieties of bathroom supplies. Clube do Adequate Advantages: Nice location, friendly staff, large apartments Disadvantages: Tired, uninspired ...hear you say). The Clube do Lago apartments tick many boxes. It's a nice location - near the beach, but still near enough to Lisbon to allow frequent day trips. The architecture looks Portuguese/Iberian, and so feels more traditional and personal than the big tower blocks that are sprouting like mushrooms everywhere in the area. The staff is helpful and friendly, and speak excellent English. The rooms are spacious and clean. However, everything is ... ...'should I stay at the Clube do Lago', I'd say go for it. If you were to ask me 'where should I stay in Portugal', I'd advise you to canvass opinion of folk with more experience of hotels in the area than I have - I'd imagine there are more exciting places than this for similar rates.
