But it's inside the gate that the town reveals its charm. Ridiculously narrow streets twist and turn past various churches and mansions, all the while climbing imperceptibly up to the highest point of the town, the Alcazar del Rey Don Pedro, which is now a Parador hotel. The town comes to a rather abrupt stop near here at the Puerta de Cordoba where the old Cordoba road dives steeply down towards a seemingly never-ending plain.
Before you get that far though, you pass what is the hub of the old town, the Plaza SanFernando. This is the main square of the old town and is relatively small by Spanish standards, but as it's enclosed by good examples of Moorish-style architecture and typical Spanish facades (including the Town Hall), it's very atmospheric and has the 'feel' of a true, old-world Plaza.

Advantages: Clean and adequate Disadvantages: Forgettable, in a business district, frequent power cuts
The Posada del Inca is a medium sized 4* hotel located in a deathly quiet upper class residential street in the business district of San Isidro, one of Lima's finest neighbourhoods. FACILITIES
On entering the hotel, guests are greeted by a marble decored reception area located in the centre of an unremarkable glass-fronted open plan lobby. To the left was a plain multi-purpose restaurant ...
Advantages: Gorgeous scenery, sunshine Disadvantages: transport links
I visited San Diego last October due to a work meeting. As it was such a long way to travel I thought it would be a good idea to add on a few days holiday to explore the area with a friend who was coming along.
Getting There

This may seem too much for some, but for me it was great as the plane changing gave me a chance to stretch my legs. I think I would have found 13 hours cooped up in a plane too much! One thing I did ensure was that the route ...
