Advantages: Everything good about reunified Berlin Disadvantages: Some areas under construction

Potsdamer Platz was at its height in the 1920's were more than 100,000 people came through it every day. It was so busy that Europe's first traffic light was installed here to control the flow of ... ...3 Euros. The roof of Potsdamer Platz resembles a huge circus tent and can be seen from a great distance.
The Film Museum costs 6Euros for adults and $ Euros for concessions. It is well worth a visit and contains the history of German cinema from its heyday in the 1920s to the awful Nazi propaganda films of the 1930s and 1940s. It also has a great exhibition on special effects that children will definitely enjoy.

Potsdamer Platz was at its height in the 1920's were more than 100,000 people came through it every day. It was so busy that Europe's first traffic light was installed here to control the flow of cars in 1924. The newly revived Potsdamer Platz has almost reached the same flow of people and traffic.
Most of the cranes are now gone and they have left two new complexes. The Sony Centre and Daimler City.Opened in 2000 and 1998 respectively. The Sony Centre contains a huge 3D IMAX cinema, a Sony store (of course) and the Berlin Film Museum. Daimler City also has an IMAX cinema as well as a huge shopping centre, a luxury hotel and a casino. There is also an observation deck which gives splendid views of the city and only costs 3 Euros. The roof of Potsdamer Platz resembles a huge circus tent and can be seen from a great distance.

One of the most interesting parts of the Sony Centre are two rooms that seem out of place in a modern high tech building. These two rooms are all that remain of the world class Hotel Esplanade. The hotel was all but destroyed during WW2 and the Imperial Suite and the Breakfast room were all that survived when the hotel was demolished. They were moved in 1996 and have been loving restored and do not look out of place at all. They give a great impression of what Potsdamer Platz must have been like. The rooms have now been converted into a luxury restaurant. Main courses cost between 15 and 20 Euros. But it is well worth it to experience such lavish surroundings.
Over the road from the heart of Potsdamer Platz is a balloon ride. For 10 Euros you are winched above Berlin in an enclosed hot air balloon and get the most fantastic view of the city. Definitely take a camera!
Potsdamer Platz can be reached by taking the U-Bahnt to the recently refurbished Potsdamer Platz station. As you exit there is a piece of the Berlin Wall and a golden line running through the area to show where the wall used to run. This section of the wall is always busy, but if you are patient you can definitely get a good photograph. Potsdamer Platz is the personification of a reunited Berlin and a good indication of how the city has been rejuvinating itself after being divided for 50 years. Well worth visiting.
Advantages: Interesting and brand new Disadvantages: or is it really very old???
The Potsdamer Platz is a brand new, vibrant area that was built during the 1990s in the former east Berlin. The area is a now key to Berlin in terms of business with many major German companies having their headquarters here, including Deutsche Bahn and Sony, as well as having becoming a must-see for visitors to Berlin. What is it?
The Potsdamer Platz centres around a central area that is 20+ stories high with a covered roof that is open at the ... ...restaurants, visitors' attractions, and the Potsdamer arcade, which features over 100 hundred shops in the immediate area. In the arcade you will find a wide range of shops including clothing for men, women and children as well as a plethora of shoe shops! There's a book shop that even has a small selection of English books and a small Aldi supermarket to stock up on those essential items. Getting there?

Advantages: it is an exciting place for everybody Disadvantages: in my opinion nothing
(I`m german and my english is not perfect, sorry)
The PotsdamerPlatz is the new heart of Berlin.
Around 1900 the PotsdamerPlatz was the pulse of Germany and one of the most famous places in the world. In a time where the first cars concoured the big cities, this was world wide the first place, where cars became a problem. In conclusion here was build the first traffic light in the world.
During the second world war the place was totally destroyed. After the war nothing was rebuild, becouse the area was direct at the border between East- and West-Germany.
Since 1990 ( the German reunion) architects planed a new PotsdamerPlatz. Just two years later the place became the biggest building project in Europe and the second biggest in the world.
1992 the area was a big nothing. Just in the centre of it was a big red container ...
Advantages: An ultra modern hotel in an ultra modern city centre. Disadvantages: None
The Grand Hyatt Hotel is a relatively new addition to a modern development in the centre of Berlin. A low rise brick built (eight floors) multi-storey with a large neon sign at its summit, it is part of the lively environs of the PotsdamPlatz. The approach to the main entrance once off the main road is somewhat unprepossessing but the streets around are girded by bistros (of which the hotel has its own), boutiques and a recently opened shopping arcade.
The foyer is a cavernous place, dressed in brown and quite dimly lit. There is valet parking and a multi-story car park is near by. Registration was quick and efficient and there is a well equipped concierge desk on the same level.
The hotel has a formal restaurant (the Vox) which provides an eclectic mix of inventive dishes from around the world. We chose from European themes ...
