Since the previous review was written in 2004 the Powerhouse has moved (yet again - three times in about four years!)
The new club is a lot smaller than the previous one but it is spread across more floors.
It seems the only thing that hasn't changed are the prices. £10 entry on a Saturday but it is open from 23:00-04:00 (which I think most clubs are now).
This club is also a maze of stairs and doors. Once you pay your money you can either turn right into the ground floor bar which has just had a pool table and a DJ stand put in, from there you can go down the spiral staircase (not too good when you've had one too many) and deposit your coat for £1.50 or go to the toilets.
The first floor plays popular music, and has a flashing dancefloor a la Saturday Night Fever (who said it was the year 2007????) unfortunately, at the time of writing, you will get turfed off the dancefloor if you take your drinks on it, so either drink up then dance or don't dance. This room has just had screens put up on the walls and cameras are trained on the dancefloor so you can look out for people (not that you need to the room is quite narrow but long). There are two bars one at the top of the dance floor and one at the bottom. There is also plenty of seating on all of the floors.
Then we go upstairs to the room I am not keen on, it's the hardcore room where they play choons are whatever they call them. It is in this room that you are more than likely to step over a smacked up charver, there are a lot of straight people that hang around in this room of their nuts on some sort of substance. I've been in a few times and never again, there is only one bar in this room.
Then we go up again to a sort of chill out area, it's basically a bar with seats in it. However, the bar only sells bottles so if you want a pint then you'll have to go to another floor. And there are more toilets on this floor.
The only issue I have with the place is that the toilets are located either in the basement or on the top floor, not good when you need a wee in a hurry!
And also at the time of writing, there isn't much choice in the pints either, it's Carling, cider or you'll have to have bottles. I am sure (fingers crossed) that this will change in time.
