Czech it out !!

Advantages: The beauty and ambiance of a lovely city
Disadvantages: A lot of tourists and walking!!

== THE CITY OF PRAGUE ==

=== INTRODUCTION ===

My husband and I wanted a short break sans kids, having 'done' Paris so many times we decided to try somewhere completely new to us - that place was Prague.
We knew little about the Czech Republic before we went, only of its political history and 'Good' King Wenceslas.

Wedged in between Germany and Austria the Czech Republic is one of the most comfortable ...
...the iron curtain in 1989, Prague has become one of the most popular destinations in Europe - and it's easy to see why!

We took the flight, early October, from Manchester to Prague (just over two hours) not knowing what to expect during our five day tour there - and we weren't disappointed.

=== GENERAL IMPRESSION ===

The city is absolutely dazzling, with spires and statues and historical landmarks everywhere ... more

Prague - Our Experience

Advantages: Plenty to see and do, cheap compared to many other European cities
Disadvantages: Cobbled streets so walking can be tough going, hilly in parts

We went to Prague in February 2007. This was our first visit to the Czech Republic. This review gives you an account of our experience of Prague. I have given everything a rating out of 10. Price conversions were correct in relation to the exchange rate in February 2007. ACCOMMODATION: 10/10 We stayed at the Hotel Certovka. The hotel itself was a beautiful 4* hotel. Decoration and furnishings were superb. Our room was on the top (3rd) floor with ...
...the Mala Strana area of Prague (Castle side of the bridge), making it quieter than staying in the Old or New Town areas. There was very little traffic around the hotel. A metro station (Malostranska) was 3 minutes walk from the hotel and there were tram stops next to the metro station and in Little Quarter Square. Charles Bridge was just a few steps from the hotel, with access via a ramp or steps. Kampa Park was a 2 minute walk, going directly under ...

Praha Rocks!!

Advantages: Amazing trip to a beautiful country
Disadvantages: Not enough time to fit it all in

...I wrote my review of Prague as a diary of the things I did while I was there. There is of course much more to see and do but this is an example of a few things I found interesting. So we've arrived in Prague! Where to first? We collect our baggage, quite a short wait... and get a mini bus to the door of our hotel for CZ 840 return which works out at twenty one pounds, which for the length of the trip and for the fact they dropped us off at the door ...
...cheapest form of transport in Prague is definately public, the bus that leaves from the airport and the further tube to get into the city centre costs the equivalent of a couple a pounds, but you would need to be an experienced traveller and confident about finding your way. With a big bag and newly arrived in Prague, we opted for the mini bus (like a big taxi). This is cheaper than a standard taxi and is cheaper still if you can find some others ...

Goldfingers and Bohemians

Advantages: Nice 'n' Cheap
Disadvantages: Cold

...as a thriving city nightlife. Prague is well known for its ballroom dancing and jazz clubs, which we avoided! Here is a brief summary of what we participated in with regards to entertainment! GOLDFINGERS Goldfingers is an extremely classy strip club just of the centre of Wenceslas Square (Prague’s equivalent to Covent Garden/Leicester Sq.). It is at the base of a famous hotel, which was featured in a Bond Movie… which one I can’t ...
...also quite bizarre seeing the Prague firebrigade park up a few engines at one of the ends. They all got their beers out, stood on the top of the engines peering into the ground for the second half! All very different. Bohemians won 2-1 and went top. If only we were there a week later and we could have seen Real Madrid for Ł1.50! For those that wish to relax to a greater degree attractions such as; The Jewish quarter, St Vitus’s Cathedral, ...

Whistle stop Prague experience

Advantages: Cheap, cheerful, romantic
Disadvantages: Can be very busy, beware of rip off merchants

...be a taster of what Prague has to offer, and my first time experience in this wonderful city. The only way to get a feel for Prague is to get out there and discover it for yourself. My experience **************** Getting there ************** Living in Norfolk meant that the most convenient airport for my girlfriend and I was Stanstead, a one and a half hour drive (abiding by all speed limits and in moderate traffic) away. Out of all UK airports ...
...for both of us. Prague Airport **************** Due to Czech Airlines messing us around we had to book the taxi for 1.30 pm despite our arrival at 12.30. I found that this was the most stressful part since I had read many horror stories of having to 'hail down' a taxi and having to pay up to Ł100 to get to Prague which is some 15KM away from the airport. We watched people come and go, we watched taxi drivers arrive find their fares and then disappear. ...

Six Weeks in Praha

Advantages: A beautiful city with enough to keep you going for months. Still cheap, if you stay away from the tourist traps.
Disadvantages: Too hot in the summer. Tourist, tourists every where!

...get past the check point, Prague is only an hour or so away. Once the passports have been checked, the driver gets things going as swiftly as possible. While he gets us rolling, his back up moves up and down the aisle, handing back the passports from a tin. The Czech drivers aren't usually fluent in English. On this occasion, a pretty ten-year-old Belgian girl accompanies him, to help with the tricky surnames. There is a frustrating rest stop just ...
...girlfriend, and was rolling into Prague on a blazing summer morning. "Hello Prague!" I yelled, staggering off the coach at Florenc. It was a moment of pre-planned of exuberance that didn't quite come off. My bogus enthusiasm made a passing old lady stare, but nobody else cared. Just another tourist bounding off a coach, eager to test the strength of his stash in a city where everything is cheap, and the beer's even cheaper. The coach got me there ...

Prague in general

Advantages: A lot of places to see, o lot of clubs, not expensive
Disadvantages: I do not know any of them

Last summer I was In Prague for a week, this summer I am planing to come back, because I just admire this city. The buildings, parks, streets, churches, everything i just fascinating. The Carl bridge is the place where you just have to go, the city hall is fascinating, especially in night. Prague Grail is unforgetable. Starting bildings, which is like in a fairytail, finishing Vitas catedral. There you have to see the gold street, it is woth to see, Kings palace, oldest renaissance church, Vitas catedral in which is so beautiful, that I do not have words to tell how. Talking about transport it is really good even in the night and it not hard to understand the transport system. There is a lot of clubs in Prague centre, you just have to go there, restaurants is working till 2 in the night, but restaurants in city hall is very expensive, so ...

Review of Prague (Czech Republic)

Much improved and safer than before

Advantages: Trams and the underground are regular, reliable and CHEAP! Taxis have improved as well.
Disadvantages: You've just got to watch out for pickpockets and cowboy taxi drivers...

As far as I can tell, general security for tourists in Prague has improved markedly over the last few years. I first visited the Czech capital in the spring of 1997, and when I returned in July 2000, there were markedly less hawkers around the main attractions and the city itself feels safer. The Charles Bridge in particular is now mercifully free of people pushing and jostling you, and the traders on the bridge all now appear to be licensed. Whether this makes any difference to the quality of goods being sold is a moot point, but it's definitely an improvement! As others have pointed out, the the underground service and trams are an absolute bargain - normally packed but reliable, and it is very easy to get around the city using public transport. The hotel I stayed at last summer even provided the all-day tram tickets at reception ...

Review of Getting around in Prague

What fun!

Advantages: The best way to travel Europe
Disadvantages: Paying supplements

), Vienna, Prague and Brussels in a month. The trains in general are nice enough, but I would recommend you bike lock all luggage when you are not so likely to be able to keep a consistent watch on them, nothing happened to me or my friends whilst travelling, but it is definitely a wise precaution. Using the interrail pass is very easy, you can hop on pretty much any train in Europe with it and all you have to do is fill in the ticket for each journey which then gets stamped by the conductor...a great souvenir also! Also, I went away with the misguided preconception that the Ł300 interrail pass would be all I would need to pay for train journeys. This is not so! For most trains I would check whether or not you need to reserve seats if the train you are planning to get on is quite busy. The reservation of seats will cost you a few ...
