Prague is a very beautiful city with a stronmg history behind it. After 50 years of communism it finally embraced the western democracies with open arms. With the fall of the Berlin wall the whole of eastern europe opened up to a new lifestyle that they had never experinced before. The people are extremely friendly and are able to speak more than one language, particularly German or English as well as their native Czech language. This is particularly useful to the visitor who only plans to visit for a short while and hasn't the time to pick up the language. The city is comprised of several districts such as Prague 6 where you would find the American school and the part of diplomatic area. The climate is extremely good in that it benefits from basiclly both extremes. It is hot in the summer and this attracts tourists from neighbouring countries such as Austria, Germany and Italy. As well as these nationalities there are a lot of Americans floating around as the generally include Prague as one of there 2 days stops as they tour Europe. The old town square offers an array of restaurants and a very pleasant square, which thrives with business in the summer as market stalls are set out for the tourist season and the restaurants place tables and chairs outside as you sit basking in the sun drinking extremely good beer. Prague is famous for it's buildings and bridges Charles bridge being by far the most famous. The most attractive factor about Prague is the fact that you can walk all around the city centre and that truly is the best way to see any city. However for those who are not as young as I there is a wonderful transport system that threads it's way through the city. This is made up from a metro system, buses, and trams yes trams. I have to say I love travelling along the river front sat on one of the old style trams, nothing beats that feeling. As you travel along you can see the castle in which the president resides sat proudly on top of the hill across the river looking down on an elligant city. On the nightlife front there are plenty of pubs and clubs that stay open well into the early hours of the morning it. There are also a number of cinemas in and around the city, where a native english speaker can sit back and relax as most films are in english and the czechs read the subtitles as many are trying to learn English. For the best source of information I recommend you pick up a copy of the Prague Post once you arrive it is written in english and contains a lot of useful information, like listings of restaurant reviews and addresses along with a cinema guide. So happy travelling and don't get too drunk.

Advantages: Plenty to see and do, cheap compared to many other European cities Disadvantages: Cobbled streets so walking can be tough going, hilly in parts
