The hotel its self is adjoining the restaurent which is called the Haywain. Its not that bad actually. There has been many a time when mysle fand my family have gone to the restaurent (Its only about a 15 minute walk from where i live) for Sunday Lunch. I must I was quite impressed. My partner and myself have sat outside in the gardens while the children have run around in the large activity area. I know that its ner a main road, but I felt quite safe in the knowledge that they were safe as its all fenced off with one way in and one way out. which can actually be seen from the beer garden. When you stay in the hotel, the restaurent is where you would go for your breakfast.
The hotel has many facilities such as, satelitte Tv and a telephone/modem socket. which is available in all rooms. Recently, i'm sure that there has been some upgrade in the hotel, which allows high speed internet access in the hotel which is by the means of wifi.
There is free car parking on site so you don't need to worry about where you are going to put your car. If you don't decide to come by car, then the public transport isnt that good in this area. But- if you are willing to walk a short distance of around 5 minutes then you have a whole choice of bus stops to go to various places such as the town center (Basildon) Lakeside shopping center or one of the nearby neighbouring towns. The Hospital is a 10 minute walk so you don't need to wrry abuot that if someone needs to go to a&e or an ambulance needs to be called as its so near.
Facilities for the disabled are really quite good. All areas and floors of the hotel and restaurant are accessable by a wheelchair. With lifts or ramps where needed. There is also a limited amount of accessible rooms in the hotel, which basically means that the bed and other furniture are arranged for easy access. the bathroom would also be a "Wet room" which means that the whole room is tiled in non-slip tiles and there is no bath to climb in or out of as the whole room is like a giant shower.
The room its self was very good. The particular room i stayed in before had a king sized bed with really nice soft pillows and a duvet. My room was en-suite - as with all rooms. There was also a hairdryer, a remote control TV, tea and coffe and a kettle and a heating control on the wall. The bathroom was spotlessly clean with a shower and a bath and even complimentry toiletries.
in the morning the breakfast was served by means of a buffet. You have a choice between full english or a continental breakfast. They had everything that you could imagine. From tea and coffee to muffins to bacon and eggs.
When i stayed there, there were both smoking and non smoking rooms. But , now that this smoking ban has come into force, i suppose that there are only non smoking rooms there.
I would definitely reccommend this hotel. Its easy on your wallet, but it is of an acceptable standard.
