The Premier Inn we stayed at was the Chesterfield North one. It is located on Tapton Lock Hill, just outside of the main center of Chesterfield, but within walking/driving distance. There is a restaurant at the side of the hotel, called The Lock-keeper, although unfortunately we didn't go in there. The hotel is clearly seen from the road, so is quite unmissable as it's just behind a Tesco superstore.
My boyfriend and I were going to have a night out in Chesterfield, we'd been there before a few times and always had a good night out with friends before. So we decided to do it again. Only this time it was just the two of us, and with living a few miles away, we decided we'd stay in Chesterfield, just so we could make a night of it, instead of coming home early and my boyfriend not being allowed to drink, just so we could drive back. We thought of a few places we could stay, both aggreeing on the Premier Inn, which is just outside the center of Chesterfield, but still easily accessible. Neither of us had ever stayed in a Premier Inn before, but we'd seen them advertised and they'd always looked nice and quite reasonable to us.
*PREMIER INN*
Premeir Inn is the largest hotel chain in the UK. It has 500 hotels in the UK alone, and has been open for over 20 years. Premier Inn gurantees you a good nights sleep, they're so confident you'll get one, they'll give you your money back if you don't. The reception desk is manned 24 hours, if you need anything in the night or if you have any concerns.
*BOOKING*
The whole booking procedure is a doddle. We did it online, and it only took us about 5-10 minutes. Basically you visit the website www.premierinn.com and find the hotel you wish to stay at. You enter the date of arrival and how many nights you want to stay, which is just a basic drop down menu. And then you enter the number of rooms you require and what type of rooms you need for the amount of people visiting. Avaibility is then checked. If successful, you click on the hotel you want and click book, your then asked for your details, name, address etc. Then it goes onto your card details, however no money is taken from your account. Basically you don't pay for it now, you pay when you arrive at the hotel, the only reason they take your card details is so your room in guranteed. The booking is then confirmed.
Apart from booking online you can book via:
Direct bookings (ring chosen hotel directly) Group bookings (if needing 5 or more rooms) Tina (automated receptionist) Customer Contact Center
*PREMIER INN - CHESTERFIELD*
The Premier Inn we stayed at was the Chesterfield North one. It is located on Tapton Lock Hill, just outside of the main center of Chesterfield, but within walking/driving distance. There is a restaurant at the side of the hotel, called The Lock-keeper, although unfortunately we didn't go in there. The hotel is clearly seen from the road, so is quite unmissable as it's just behind a Tesco superstore.
*THE HOTEL ITSELF*
Like all of the Premier Inn hotels, the rooms are available after 2pm. Upon driving round to the rear of the hotel, there was a biggish car park, which was free for guests. There was plenty of CCTV cameras, so we felt happy enough to leave the car there. Outside the hotel and in the car park, gave a great first impression. It was very clean and tidy, and the plants and shrubs were kept neat and trimmed. There was no litter on the floor and it all looked very welcoming.
Walking upto the entrance, to head into reception to check in, we found the main entrance door was automatic and opened when we were about 2 metres away, which was a nice touch, no fumbling pushing and pulling heavy doors. Also a great touch for wheelchair users, and the door was wide enough for wheelchair access as well. As we walked through the door, the reception was to the left. Upon enterting we were greeted warmly by the staff, the usual nice plesantries. Looking around in the reception area, it was clean and tidy, smelled fresh and the information signs were visible, easy to read and understand. There was a carboard cut out of Lenny Henry dressed in a yellow bathrobe next to the reception desk, as obviously Lenny is in the Premier Inn advert. Straight ahead of the reception desk was the restaurant and bar, and to the left of the desk was the lifts and stairs.
The checking in process was simple, my boyfriend had booked the room days before, so all they needed was a few bits written down, name, signiture and race. We were then given our key card and an information booklet and told our room was on the second floor. We opted to travel via the stairs. As we walked towards the door that lead to the stairs, we realised we needed the key card to open it, which obviously was for security reasons, so no-one who isn't a guest couldn't go wandering around the hotel. To use the key card you had to insert it into the slot and then remove it, it beeped and a green light appeared to let you know the door was now accessible. The stairs weren't too steep and were clean and tidy like the rest of the hotel.
*THE ROOM*
We finally arrived at our room, we used the key card to enter and upon opening the door was greeted by a fresh smell, rather like clean bedding, which was pleasant. To the left of the entrance was a cupboard to hang coats and clothes and also a few shelves.
*BATHROOM*
This was located to the right of the entrance, it was quite spacious, with a toilet, sink, full size bath and shower. Along with shelf space, a shower curtain and a big bathroom mirror. The bathroom was very clean once again, everything was gleaming, it smelled fresh, and unlike other hotels i've stayed at before it felt like nobody had been in it before, if you understand what I mean. I was rather shocked there was a full size bath, I was just expecting a small shower cubicle. Located next to the bath on the wall was some shower gel, which was Lux, which I occasionally buy when i'm at home, which I was rather pleased about. Next to the sink was a hand wash dispenser, which when used came out like shaving foam rather than liquid, but it smelt nice none the less. Overall the bathroom was nicer than I expected, it was clean, tidy and quite spacious.
*BEDS*
In the room we were in there were two beds, a double and a single. The beds were very comfy and we got a good nights sleep on them. Sometimes in hotels you can find the beds to be a bit hard and uncomfortable, but this wasn't the case at the Premier Inn, I suppose with their hotel revolving around the unique selling point of having a good nights kip, that they can't really afford to have uncomfortable beds. The bed sizes were quite generous, especially the double, as it was bigger than some doubles available in hotels. The bedding was clean and immaculate, all having been made neatly with no creases. The bedding smelt nice and obviously as you would expect had been put on fresh before we arrived. The pillows were soft and nice to sleep on, obviously good well made pillows.
*WHAT ELSE WAS IN THE ROOM?*
Also in the room was a dressing table/desk with a chair, ideal to use while putting on make-up or doing your hair. There was a hairdryer attatched to the wall just above the dressing table, which came in rather handy, and was quite powerful. There were also clean fresh towels, nice bright white, which I always love to see as I think it shows off the quality of the hotel, if theres some fresh white towels. On the wall was a long mirror, which obviously gave you a full body image, to check your outfit and so, which was a nice touch also. There was a kettle, with 2 mugs and 2 glasses, also a few satchets of tea, coffee, sugar, and milk. A TV with remote and quite a few channels to choose from, more than your regular 1,2,3,4 and 5. A heater which I was able to control myself, had it on nice and high as it was quite cold outside. Other bits and bobs in the room were a Bible, some little information booklets and a couple of menus.
*ROOM OVERALL*
The room itself was very spacious, painted in the Premier Inn colours, creams and purples, very nice decor. The bathroom was also very spacious, once again nice decor. The view from the hotel wasn't so grand, basically our view overlooked Tesco, although it was hidden slightly with a few trees, and also overlooked what can only be described as a swamp, or river that was full of mud and a rather funny green colour, but to be honest it didn't bother me, as really I hadn't gone there for the view. The room overall was nicely decorated, fresh and super clean, one of the best hotel rooms i've stayed in as of yet.
*FOOD*
We had breakfast at the hotel and it was delicious. We both treat ourselves to the Premier breakfast, which if i remember rightly cost us around £7.50 each, quite expensive for a breakfast, but we were hungry.
What I had:
Coffee and Orange Juice (could also have tea) Cereal (many varieties to choose from) and.... Full English Breakfast, consisting of: bacon egg (choose from fried, poached or boiled) beans tomato mushrooms sausage (pork or veggie) fried bread
10/10 for the breakfast, it was delicious and filling, but not overly filling, just the right amount and set me up for the rest of the day.
Also available was the Continental Breakfast, costs £5.15 , which consists of: cereals porridge croissants muffins fresh fruit salad yoghurts coffee tea fruit juice
Grab and go breakfast, costs £2.90, consisting of: baked croissant tea or coffee
Also if you've taken the family to the Premier Inn, and you have children under 16, then if an adult buys a Premier breakfast then upto two of the children can eat free, which is a great bargain, unfortunately i'm a few years past that now :(.
We didn't have any dinner at the hotel, but by judging from the breakfast, I wish we had of done. There was plenty to choose from on the menu ranging from snacks, sandwiches, up to main courses, such as steak, from viewing the menu, not a majorily bad price, but not overly cheap either.
*COST*
We stayed at Premier Inn on a Saturday night, and it cost us £49 for the room. From Mon - Thurs the cost per room is £58 and from Fri - Sun £49 per room per night.
*STAFF*
We didn't see an awful amount of staff, but the ones we did see were polite and seemed really approchable. Whenever we saw them they had a smile on their face, said hello and just genuinely seemed nice. They were all wearing their uniform and looked smart and presentable, and they seemed like they were always there to help.
*THE MORNING AFTER*
At all Premier Inn hotels, the room has to be vacated by noon, whereas with many other hotels it's usually 10:00, so we got a little extra lie in, which is ALWAYS nice. We left the room, having had a GREAT nights sleep, and along the way bumped into a few staff members who once again were polite, saying morning and asking how our stay was, which was nice, we handed in our key card at reception and were on our way.
*OVERALL*
Overall my experience at the Premier Inn was a great one. It does state on the website that MOST hotels have adapted rooms for guests with disabilities, however i'm unsure if the Premier Inn in Chesterfield has, but obviously you could always phone up and enquire. The room and general hotel was spotless, and the whole atmosphere of the hotel was calm and relaxing. The price wasn't too bad to say what great service we got. The view wasn't the best, but I can live with that. Fresh and clean, and just felt really homely, really ideal for a family. A lovely place to stay at wether for business, leisure or just for a great nights sleep :). Friedly staff, comfy beds, clean as a whistle and a cracking breakfast, what more could you ask for want from a hotel?
