The premier travelinn at charing cross Glasgow is perfect for the city break on a budget or for a conveniently positioned based when on business in the city.
This is a large 12 storey hotel with a restaurant and bar on the first floor. All room are on suite and the price is per room not per person so if you are a family you get extra value from the family rooms at no extra cost. All rooms have remote controlT.V. with selected digital channels (No satelite), tea and coffee making facilities and comfortable beds with additional bedding if required.
Breakfast isn't included in the price and to be honest it isn't worth it anyway. As the hotels main negative the breakfast is luke warm and tasteless; got out for breakfast there are no shortages of local cafes and diners in close proximity.
Location is the key selling point for this hotel and here's why. Charing cross is not far from the end of the famous sauchiehall (Soggy hall) street which is the Glasgow equivalent of oxford street. This means that you are within 5 mins walking distance of the very center of glasgow.
In addtion to this the location means that from a transport perspective you are also very well siutated with easy access to the M8, the charing crosstrain station right next door and glasgow airport just a few miles away. If travelling by car there is a multistorey car park which only charges you £1 for over night parking which can be far more if you stay in one of the other city hotels.
TOP TIPS
Don't eat the breakfast
Ask for a room higher up in the building as if you get a room on the wrong side and low down you can hear the train announcment until late at night.
Don't eat at the hotel instead walk out the front door and take 20 steps forward to a bar called the baby grand where you can have a suberb meal for the same price as in the hotel and listen to a baby grand piano being played at the same time. This restaurant is a gem (be careful though the walls have ears ... you'll see what i mean).
Organising a stag do??? There is a 'male entertainment club' discreetly positioned about 25 yards from the front door. Those of you not on a stag do don't worry it is so discreet you wont notice it. Can't vouch for the content though.
All in all this is a basic clean hotel which is cheap and well located so if you don't need mints on your pillow and someone to carry your bags then you could do alot worse in glasgow.
review is a bit on the brief side but have given it VH nevertheless as it does contain a fair amount of useful info; particularly liked the top tips which condensed the information well- Rob
