The hotel is easy to find and the check in process was also easy. Being slightly un-used to hotels I am still impressed by the replacement of keys with those little credit cards, and this hotel had a great energy saving scheme where the card has to go in a box on the wall to operate the lights and electrics. The key also operates as a key to get into your corridor so security seemed to be excellent.
The hotel is built around an atrium, and in the bottom of the atrium are tables / chairs which are served by the restaurant / Bar Est, which, incidentally, did good food and a special offer of 2 courses for £9.99. You could even choose whether you wanted starter and main or main and desert. I can recommend the lemon tart it was very nice! Another useful feature was that you could order pizza from the restaurant and eat it in your room.
The problem with having a hotel built around an atrium is that it warms up. A lot. My room, on the 4th floor, had a window overlooking the atrium and all the associated heat. The windows didn't open but there was an air conditioning unit. It had a silent setting but there was not a discernable lessening in the noise of the thing, so I gave up trying to sleep in a cool room and just turned it off, which was quieter but very warm. My thermometer showed 25 degrees when I woke up. I did complain at the desk but was told "next time ask for a fan" which didn't really help! A further written complaint has been sent, watch this space to see if they live up to their comfort guarantee.
Other than the temperature, the room was comfortable. It had a large bed (made of two singles fastened together), a tv with 10 channels, bathroom with shower and very small bath. Shower gel was supplied but nothing else. There was a complimentary tea/coffee basket. There was a large enough clothes hanging space for a short stay, and I think I saw a cupboard with an iron in it somewhere down the corridor so I guess you can do your own ironing. There hairdryer and a chargecard phone but I have no idea how you were supposed to contact reception with it.
Generally the decor was good, and staff were helpful.
Breakfast was an eat-all-you-can buffet which was served from 7 till 10. I turned up at 8.30 and there was still quite a lot left but the croissants were a bit tough. There was a good choice of continental and full breakfast, and if i had brought 4 children, they would have eaten free when I paid for just me. My one very minor complaint was that the fruit salad was cut into very large chunks so I needed a knife and fork to cut them into bitesize pieces.
To sum up, this is a good place to stay for one night if you are going to London for a meeting. I wouldn't want to stay there much longer, and definately not in hot weather.
