I've stayed in two other hotels in Milton Keynes, but this was by far the best. I stayed there last weekend, just for the Saturday night. I was heading to MK for a convention at the shopping centre and my partner booked the hotel at the last minute. The rate we paid was £54 for just bed, but for two people that is a very good rate. From the train station, the taxi cost less than £4, which was a pleasant surprise when I assumed it would cost more for not being in the town centre. So if you were interested in heading out for the night, the taxi fare back to this hotel would not bankrupt you.
The hotel room itself was a standard room, double bed, nice sofa that was possibly a bed for a third person, the standard desk with TV, tea making facilities and two chairs. There was also a coffee table piece of furniture too, which I found useful for putting things on and not taking up the whole desk. The room was very spacious too, normally just me on my won could take up all the floor space with my bags. The room could easily have been shared between three friends and not become an absolute state. The room was also clean and very nicely presented with a large, full length mirror and smaller one on the desk - ideal for a girl getting dressed!
The bathroom was kind of small, but very nicely laid out and, importantly, clean. The only problem that we found with the bathroom was that after taking the plug out of the bath, there was a strong smell of sewage coming into the room. We had already finished in the bathroom by this point though, so it wasn't that much of a problem. We informed reception and they were very nice about it and promised to see about it.
From the bedroom window we had a lovely view of Furzton Lake (which you can walk around) and a nice little water feature just outside of the hotel itself. We also discovered that we had a balcony on our room! The door was locked, but presumably you could contact reception to open it. There was also information about room service from the adjoining pub, which had a two for one offer on. We opted to go to the pub and take advantage of the good prices. £15 for two side orders and 2 main courses. The service wasn't brilliant, but they were busy. The pub had a nice outdoor decking area to sit and eat, which would be lovely in the summer - especially with the views of the lake and all the lovely grassy areas surrounding it too.
All in all the hotel was very good for value, decent sized and clean rooms. If you want a romantic hotel with a short taxi journey to some where to go out for a meal, or a £7 taxi to the main shopping centre, this hotel is ideal. I would stay again, just for a weekend away this time!
