**Fly awa' hame**
Premier Travel Inn, the outcome from the merged Premier Inn and Travel Inn chains, are ubiquitous in the UK, many larger locations boasting two or three of them: And I wish there were more (there are about 480)! They do what they claim and set out to do, do it well, at an easy to understand price, reliably and cheerfully - how many businesses can make that boast?
A few years ago, the UK had little to offer in this market. City centres had business hotels and there were country house type places between. Other than that, it was down to small private hotels and bed and breakfast places only, and the standard, to be kind, was very variable.
The great advantage of the national chains is the relative guarantee of a standard, of the same decent facilities. Premier Travel Inn meets this standard in full and are even improving it - you now get a money back guarantee from them that the stay will meet your needs. This really is a business putting its money where its mouth it - admirable.
**How much**
Amazing £56 per night for the room. For four of you, two adults and two kids under 16 sharing one room, £71 including breakfast!! And a good night guaranteed or your money back.
**What do you get?**
Your double bedded room will cover all basic needs. (If you particularly need a type of room, for example family or a smoking room, you must specify this ahead of time - otherwise, you will get what they have when you check in). In addition to the double bed, there is a bed settee which also has a slide-out bed underneath, so you could have effectively a double and two singles in the same room. There are a number of ground floor rooms adapted for a small person or a person in a wheelchair, but do make sure to book one ahead - there are only so many available.
All 80 or so rooms in this hotel are en suite and feature a shower over a bath, tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer, a work desk with direct dial phone and internet access and a TV with pay movie options. Rooms are very effectively double glazed and I could not hear the airport noise at all.
There is plenty of free parking available right outside the hotel. There is also the option on-site to park for long stay, e.g. to leave your car here whilst away on holiday (fee payable).
My room proved to be perfectly adequate and everything worked that should.
**Public rooms/bar**
On the left hand side of the hotel is a reasonable size bar with an outdoor smoking area. Ubiquitous TV was on, but it was not too loud. Beyond this was the built-in restaurant (called Slice) where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served.
Breakfast is £5.25 per head for the cold/continental selection or £7.50 a head for the full selection of cold food, cereal, fruit, juices and a plated cooked breakfast. We had the full Monty and it was excellent - highly recommended.
Up to two 15 year old and under guests can eat breakfast free when an adult pays for a full breakfast, a really family-friendly policy which will help with making the money go further (residents only).
We also booked a table and had dinner at the hotel (last orders at 10pm) and we were very pleasantly surprised by the standard and the prices. A decent steak with potatoes and veg for less than £12, a huge portion of gammon ham and eggs with chips for less than £9, this was very good value food pleasantly served and well cooked. Wine prices were reasonable, too.
**Arrival**
Check-in as standard is 3pm and check-out 12 noon. The process was quite smooth. I have found it advantageous with this chain and others to print off a copy of my booking confirmation and take it with me.
I had pre-booked breakfast and so I was expected to pay for the room for one night and for breakfast the following morning on arrival. Everything else is on a pay-as-you-go basis.
**What else do they offer you?**
There are meeting rooms available, but that is about it.
**What is nearby?**
The clue is certainly in the name of the hotel: Premier Travel Inn Newcastle International Airport tells you what you need to know - it is 500 yards from the arrivals door at the airport.
There is also a Newcastle-upon-Tyne Metro station more or less outside the hotel and other transport links as shown here: http://www.premiertravelinn.com/pti/pTiibsRedirect.do?INNID=NEWPLI

**Overall Rating**
Great place that I can heartily recommend. No, this is not a fashionable boutique hotel where you are going to meet Paris Hilton and David'n'Posh (assuming you even wanted to) but you already knew that. This is a competitively priced solid and reliable offering which can help make your journey through Newcastle International Airport a more pleasant and less stressful event.
