The Premier Travel Inn is located on Goldsmith street in Nottingham and is really not that far from the city centre. The main tram line has stops just a few footsteps up the road which will take you to the heart of the city. One of the main shopping centres is about 20 mins walk away, The Victoria Shopping centre is filled with a range of shops and cafés from big companies.
The Travel Inn has an extremely small car park compared to its size and occupancy, and its staff (who primarily take up all the spaces). On arrival if you have not already booked by the phone and been told, you will be re-directed with your car to the multi-storey car park around the corner where they have reduced prices negotiated, otherwise if you can manage to get in at the travel inn its free. It is about 5-10mins walk away from the hotel entrance.
Just inside reception is a few seats and the main reception desk. The staff are happily seated behind and will invoice your stay including breakfast, so specifically ask for it to be removed if you dont really need it. The cost of the room will then be at the advertised price. The staff have attitudes and customer service from a minority of the reception and other hotel staff is to be desired. Just behind reception is the bar and restaurant with expensive prices as you would expect from a hotel chain.
Rooms are allocated along all floors with Disabled, Family and Standard rooms, all of which are the same price. Then you have the choice of Smoking and Non smoking. The rooms are comfortable and clean with powerful showers and coutesy shampoos etc. Extra pillows can be obtained from reception but if you dont see one coming then dont hold out much hope. The rooms contain mostly a single double bed and a sofa bed. Although three spaces, the rooms are only for two and the sofa bed is for under 15's only. Internet connection along with Tea and Coffee making facilties are also available in the room. Should you require an iron these are available from reception for a refundable £5 deposit.
The rooms are ideal for a night out in Nottingham, with the cheap prices. Taxis can be pre-booked using the courtesy phone in reception and just over the road is a cashpoint. The price of the rooms rise at the weekends, but nights out in Nottingham during the week can be just as busy. Mid-week during the day the streets are packed with students aound the hotel.
I shall not go into detail about my experience with the reception staff but they were rude, unhelpful and failed to deliver a satisfactory level of customer service. The hotel has a full refund policy which is still found on its website, and after a period of marketing it and realising its profits may be going down the can its no longer really advertised. But all we got back after our complaint was half the price of a single room (from two booked) in Travel Inn vouchers.
So be prepared, but the standard of the rooms and the price you pay cannot be faulted! Only a minority of staff have the ability to pay attention to detail and its customers.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
I only stayed once at a Premier Travel Inn (in Manchester) and found it alright. But recently I read a couple of reviews which give them a bad rating (especially for the behaviour of the staff)... If you want to reach a wider audience - you can cross-post your review on www.trivago.co.uk. You can do so anonymously, or as a registered member. Would be happy if you let me invite you :-.) Sascha
