I visit York on a regular basis and always stay at the Premier Travel Inn (Blossom Street) because it is the cheapest that offers on-site parking in the area I want.
Parking: The non disabled is a little on the small size considering how many rooms they have. Arrive early to get a space, go shopping then check in. The disabled is few and far between too. I think I counted about 4 or 5 spaces last time I visited.
Checking in: Usually only 1 person checking people in so if there is one or more people in front of you - expect to wait around 10 mins. Rooms are ready at around 2pm but when we have checked in at around 1pm we were allowed in our room.
Staff: The staff are quite friendly, but not overly so. The cleaners are friendly also and good at what they do. I would also like to say that I have never had anything go missing from my room and Ive had expensive perfume, expensive digit camera out on show and was still there when they left.
Lifts: This Premier Travel Inn consists of 3 buildings (1 main building and 2 out buildings) and although they all have around 3 or 4 floors, only 2 of these buildings contain lifts. I stayed in the building that had no lift and with heavy luggage - it was a nightmare. Ask on arrival and ask for assistance should you need it.
Rooms - I have only ever stayed in a twin room so I can only comment on those. They are spacious, clean and tidy. In your room you should find a TV (with Freeview), hairdryer, large mirror, desk area, telephone and, of course, en suite facilities. The lighting in the room could be better. As a woman, the room isnt very well lit to apply make up in the evening. The beds are comfortable, the decor is adequate but the walls (and ceilings) are quite thin so expect to hear footsteps from the room above should you have one. Rooms are smoking and non smoking. No mini bar.
Restaraunt - I have never tried the food in the restaraunt but it does smell delicious and it always seems to be full when I pass.
Noise - The hotel is attached to a pub (The Windmill) and can sometimes hear people (rooms are not double glazed) but personally, it doesnt bother me. Other guests can be noisy too, obviously.
Price - The price is fairly good (£63 midweek - £67 weekends for off season. Prices are per room NOT per person per night) considering its a very busy city that attracts millions of tourists.
Locality - The hotel is on Micklegate and is only 10-15 mins walk to York centre and is extremely close to the railway station.
If you do plan to eat in your room, please make sure not to leave your cutlery around your room as the cleaners will take it thinking it belonged tot he hotel (it happened to me once). If you want a hotel that offers the basics then this hotel (and Premier Travel Inn in general) is right up your street. I recommend here to anyone who just wants a place not sleep, not someone who wants a hotel full of mod cons.
Advantages: value for money, size of room, cleanliness Disadvantages: location ashame it wasn't a bit close to city
I stayed at the premier inn last month in a family room for just 65.00 for the night which I thought was an excellent price considering the size of the room. The room was very clean and above expectations. It is 3 miles from the city centre but very close to the park and ride just down the road which runs every ten minutes into the city centre we found this very usefull. The breakfast was all you can eat for 7.50 and if one adult had this the children ...
