Stayed here In May with my wife for a leisure weekend using the Visa "Bonus Bucks" promotion, on a B&B basis. Cost was £78 for the room per night for B&B, plus a £100 voucher on checkout towards a further 2 night break in a Marriott hotel - so I knew that we were on to a winner from the start! The hotel has a really accessible location less than 5 minutes from the M6. Don't let that put you off as it is in its own grounds up a 200m drive, and doesn't suffer from any traffic noise. Check in was very friendly and efficient, and I managed to arrange an upgrade to a lovely room in the old part of the building overlooking the drive for £20 per night.
Room was large and extremely comfortable, with a king size bed and all the usual facilities. There was an excellent air-conditioning units that was totally controllable by ourselves via remote control. As it was at the end of the corridoor, we expected the room to be quiet, and it certainly was, despite several weddings that weekend in the hotel.
The reception area is relativley small but leads round to a large bar/lounge witeh a pleasant conservatory and outside seating area. This leaves plenty of space for wedding groups to move around and not cramp the style of residents. The wedding venues are on one side of the building and noise does not intrude into the main parts of the hotel, but possible could into the closest bedrooms.
The newer parts of the hotel have been added in a sympathetic style to the original building - which is not always the case in other places!
We decided to eat in the restaurant on the first night and booked a table for 7.30. Food and service were excellent and the table d'hote menu was great value at £23.50 per head.
On the Saturday, after an enjoyable day out in Preston and Fleetwood, we had a great time sitting outside the front of the hotel with a drink, watching the wedding parties come and go, and the various musicians entertain them.
We had been rather worried that we could not book our evening meal until 8pm, and this proved to be justified. Our theory is that is there is a 9pm watershed in most hotel restaurants and if you are not finished by then, things go pear-shaped. Sure enough, we enjoyed our starters and main courses but had to wait around 30 minutes for our desserts, although at least one couple waited longer and then they walked out. Again, the general food and service were great apart from that problem. There appeared to be a children's menu and the staff were particularly helpful with young guests. We noticed that bar meals were available in the lounge and they looked reasonably priced, with a varied menu. There are also restaurants within walking distance - Burlingtons is about 8 minutes heading north.
Although we did not use the facilities, the gym and pool etc looked large and well designed.
Overall then, this was a really enjoyable stay in a very comfortable hotel, with just the delay in the restaurant on 1 night as the negative.
It was made even better by the Marriott deal - use code OTP on the Marriott website.
