After a while I thought we had arrived in Fawlty Towers. This is a fine building ruined by too few staff, who in the main are poorly trained. The food was awful and the organisation in the dining room for all meals was appallingly poor. Disabled facilities were a joke and I would suggest ... Read review

Advantages: none - a waste of time, diesel and money Disadvantages: See above!
We booked a family room for a Saturday night in late September (26/09/09 to be exact and I'm writing this at home the same evening! read on!)
Would you believe that there is not heating? No really, none what so ever - not even a heated towel rail. It was quite a cool evening and getting colder as it does at this time of year so we asked why the heating wasn't on. Head office policy would you believe? They offered extra blankets but we would have ... ...a wedding party to deal with. What about us as paying guests? Two hours later our children wanted to go to sleep but still no blankets - we asked again and got the stock answer. It was now so cold my neck was stiff and I felt chilled right through. The children were unhappy and my wife who has cancer was feeling it more than me. We checked out amid a drunken rabble who had spilled out of one of the function rooms. One reveller nearly sent my wife ...

Advantages: Good fun fair, good shopping, good golf. Disadvantages: No traditional seafront to walk along, noisy at night.
My partner and I visited Southport in 2000 to stay for a weekend in The Prince of WalesHotel at the top of Lord Street. It was a nice enough break and the hotel was lovely, but Southport isn’t a place to which I crave to return.
The reason we chose Southport is that the hotel is part of the Paramount group and we have joined their Leisure Break club so we get discounts at the hotels in the chain. To be fair the hotel was lovely, although not quite as nice as The Imperial in Blackpool, which also belongs to Paramount. It was noisy during Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday morning as the clientele leaving the local nightclubs were very rowdy.
Lord Street itself is a street of mainly exclusive shops together with the representatives of the major stores so it’s a shopper’s paradise. Unfortunately as I ...
Advantages: Good shopping, and good things to do Disadvantages: Beach wasn't too good
the Prince of WalesHotel slam bang in the centre of town. Even though it’s in the town, I don’t think it’s likely you’ll hear that much noise from outside, so don’t worry about that.
I didn’t stay in the Prince Of WalesHotel, as I was with relatives, but I was told it was an extremely nice hotel. Not too posh, and not, not posh enough, but just right!
You can book a single room there for £59 for one night. That includes bed and breakfast and nothing else. Double/Twin is £65, and that inlcudes bed and breakfast as well.
On Saturdays, these will be much more expensive. A single at £90 and a double/twin at £100.
This is very expensive, but it's very luxurious, and it's right slap bang in the middle of the town centre.
If this is too much money for you, on top of other things, there’s a wide ...
