Prince of Wales Museum,Bombay(bombay is an old name of the city,its now called mumbai).

The museum was completed in 1911 and named for King George V, who laid the cornerstone in 1905. It's divided into three sections: art, archaeology, and natural history.

...It is constructed of Basalt and Kurla stone. It is three storeys high . The building has several cultural touches from islamic prominent feature of dome to western victorian style or Indo - saracenic style .The building has also some resemblance to Taj mahal (a mogul construction).

The building used as children's welfare center and then as a hospital, in 1922 opened for public as a museum .

The plan of the Museum building is very simple, a central hall from which the staircase leads to the two upper floors .The stairs lead to the gallaries,they are branched out on the right and left.

The picture gallery is the Indian miniature painting gallery, the pride of the museum ,contains Mogul and Rajput miniature paintings,We can find fine art work of European and Indian artists, Tibetan and Nepali art, and also the copies of magnificent cave temple paintings from Ajanta.

The European painting, armoury and textile galleries is on the second floor . specimens of art form all the galleries of the Museum is placed on the ground floor.

Children can also find some fun here ,here they have a wonderful exhibit of birds and animals,and fish. Every can very easily spend several hours here.
